A.C.T. provides more than 15,000 young people, educators and community members from the Bay Area opportunities to experience the transformative power of theater each year through engaging performances, events, workshops, in-school residencies, Student Matinees, and professional development opportunities. Our programs build creativity, empathy, critical thinking, and collaborative spirit while fostering the artists and audiences of the future. A.C.T. works with 40+ community organizations in the Bay Area, providing access to the performing arts to those for whom it is often financially or geographically out of reach. Position Purpose:

The Associate Director of Engagement will be responsible for engaging the diverse communities of the San Francisco Bay Area with an emphasis on those historically excluded from and underrepresented in live theater. Duties will include maintaining and/or building community relationships; collaborating across departments and specifically with the Artistic and Marketing departments on special events; designing and implementing culturally responsive residencies and interactions with a range of partner organizations; and producing events that realize A.C.T.'s mission and strengthen our relationship with the San Francisco community.

Responsibilities:

Drive and Ensure Ongoing Leadership of Community Programs and PartnershipsEstablish meaningful relationships, partnerships and trust with individuals and organizations across San Francisco with an emphasis on Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, LGBTQ+, veteran and disabled communities. Listen to understand community priorities and work to meaningfully integrate them into the work of A.C.T.Manage and maintain existing and develop new partnerships in, with and for San Francisco communities through special projects, community events, and our Bold Access Initiative. Collaborate with community leaders to design and coordinate programs that are responsive to the interests and needs of specific communities and that utilize A.C.T.'s resources in service of those interests.Serve as a liaison and ambassador for A.C.T. and to communities on behalf of the Artistic and Marketing departments; connecting visiting artists and collaborators with members of the community to support mutually beneficial programming.Oversee and Produce events and performances for existing initiatives and community programs, including but not limited to Larkin Street Youth Services' performances.Coordinating Community/Artistic Mainstage Events and. Projects

Attend bi-weekly Artistic/Community meetings.Collaborate with the Artistic team on developing and implementing community events and other programming related to Mainstage shows, including:Curate and organize community guest performers for A Whynot Christmas Carol and the Make-A-Thing initiative.Build/Cultivate partnerships with specific communities, as needed. Communicate with and support the collaboration of community partners.Process paperwork related to events, including event forms, receipts, hiring, and payment.Logistical support including setting up and closing down events, ordering and receiving catering, etc.Engage with Bay Area artists across artistic disciplines to support the work on A.C.T.'s stages.Producing the A.C.T. OUT Tour

Promote the A.C.T. OUT Tour to new and existing schools and community-based organizations (CBOs)Manage tour requests with online request forms and tracking requests in an Excel spreadsheetCommunicate, confirm, and coordinate with teachers/CBO partners who request the tourSchedule the tour in coordination with the Director of Education & Community Programs and the tour Production ManagerConfirm and communicate needs and expectations with tour sites, and with the cast & crewSchedule and coordinate pre-show workshops (scheduling teaching artists, communicating between classroom teacher/CBO point person and teaching artist, distributing and collecting workshop evaluations)Attend tour performances, act as a liaison between A.C.T. and the tour site, facilitate post-show talkbacks, and other event support as neededCoordinate video and photography for the tour (including securing necessary releases)Distribute and collect post-show surveys, and compile information into a summary reportCurate and Organize Playtime audience engagement workshops:

Recruiting and booking guest artists and facilitators who can present interactive workshops on themes of each Mainstage playCollaborating with Marketing to distribute information about each Playtime workshopCollaborating with Manager to create and submit event forms for each Playtime workshopOrganizing Playtime RSVPs and communicating numbers to the presenterBeing on site during Playtime workshops (one Saturday per Mainstage show) to coordinate logistics and supplies, introduce and support the presenter, and welcome patrons.Additional Administrative Duties:

Represent A.C.T. at various public events and conferences.Attend weekly departmental staff meetings and various A.C.T.-wide meetings.Keep the departmental Outlook calendar up to date with all community related events.Maintain up-to-date list of community partner contacts and key information regarding our collaboration.Support the Director and Manager with data collection, recordkeeping, gathering of work samples, and narrative reporting required by funders.Contribute to planning and provide general administrative and onsite support as needed to the full range of A.C.T.'s Education and Community programs and initiatives, working in collaboration with colleagues in the department and across the organization.Required Experience:

Minimum 3-4 years' experience in event producing, program management, and/or community organizing.Demonstrated experience working with communities historically excluded/underrepresented in live theater with a focus on the San Francisco Bay Area.Deep knowledge of the performing artsAbility to work independently and take projects from conception to completionExcellent administrative, communication, and organizational skills, as well as strong writing, public-speaking, and presentation skillsStrong project management skills and experience, ability to be detail-oriented while maintaining and cultivating big picture vision and consistencyInnovative thinking, adaptability, and comfort with supporting new ideas/projectsComfort working digitally (need not have advanced technical skills but should be able to plan and execute digital events)Respect for and ability to articulate the value of the performing arts and of arts education in the lives of people of all agesCapacity to assume leadership of existing community programs and simultaneously co-create a long-term vision for community engagement at A.C.T.Capacity to provide onsite event management; ability to work days, evenings, and weekends as neededHigh level of cultural competencyDesired Experience:

Experience working in the Bay Area arts community, including culturally-specific workBachelor's degree in education, theater, nonprofit management, and/or related field, or equivalent experienceExperience as a teaching artist, arts educator, or educational leader
