The American Red Cross (ARC) operates one AmeriCorps program in New York State: The American Red Cross Disaster Resiliency Corps (ARCDRC). The primary goal of the ARCDRC is to increase individual and community disaster resiliency by educating individuals and groups on the importance of disaster preparedness. The ARCDRC also seeks to build disaster preparedness and response capacity by assisting in the recruitment, training, and engagement of volunteers; and assist the ARC with its own disaster response and preparedness by helping to plan and develop supply, storage, distribution, shelter, and other efforts that will enable to the ARC to effectively respond to any emergency.
AmeriCorps members serving in the ARCDRC will focus on providing disaster preparedness education and training to New York State communities through established ARC educational programs. The disaster preparedness educational programs we offer are designed to educate New York Citizens of all ages on how to effectively prepare program participants for emergencies.
