VACANCY

The City of Pomona Police Department, Traffic Bureau, is currently recruiting for several Technical Specialist I (Parking Enforcement assignment) vacancies. The Traffic Bureau enforces the regulations of the California Vehicle Code and the Pomona Municipal Code as it relates to parking rules and regulations, while interacting with the community in a positive and constructive manner.

Under general supervision, the Technical Specialist I will assist full time staff with enforcing City parking regulations related to street sweeping ordinances and City owned parking areas; mark and tow abandoned vehicles; and tow vehicles parked in an unsafe manner or vehicles in violation of California Vehicle Code and City codes and ordinances.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO APPLY

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED equivalency.One year of experience involving substantial public contact.License or Certificate

Must possess a valid California class "C" driver's license.Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, Pepper Spray, and NCIC certificates within in 12 months of employment.

Enforce City parking regulations; issue parking citations for overtime parking, double parking, parking in red zones, bus zones, loading zones, handicapped zones, and other restricted parking areas.

Operate a City vehicle; ensure equipment is in proper working order; maintain supplies including chalk, cards, envelopes, citation books, and tag.

Mark and tow abandoned vehicles; tow vehicles in outages, injury and fatal traffic collisions, fires, chemicals spills, and other incidents.

Deploy radar trailer upon request of the department; assist with CDL/DUI check points.

Assist the public by giving directions, helping with stalled vehicles, and other means; provide the public with information regarding citations; respond to complaints.

Make court appearances when necessary.

Respond to calls involving minor traffic matters including non-injury traffic accidents, traffic control, abandoned vehicles, and illegally parked vehicles.

Gather traffic statistics; maintain various logs and records relating to parking operations; file citations; prepare monthly and yearly reports.

Utilize computer equipment for data entry or information retrieval.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Special Requirements : Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, climb, and lift up to 25 lbs.; exposure to outdoors, vibration, traffic hazards, and exhaust fumes; ability to travel to different sites and locations; availability for on-call and stand-by.
