In this role, you will be responsible for the planning, maintenance and security for a diverse range of systems, ranging from Quantum Stornext storage arrays, hypervisors, Active Directory Servers, Linux, Windows and Mac hosts and tooling & automation that supports their safe and reliable operation. This role requires an individual with a deep level of expertise to support these systems, ensure facility uptime, security and help our teams push the bounds of technology. Reporting to the Head of Enterprise Engineering, you will help define and drive user requirements, be responsible for following and creating design guidelines, leading technical design and acting as a point of technical escalation for global tenant infrastructure. You will partner with a number of different teams within Google DeepMind, ranging from Production Studios, Robotics and more to ensure that our infrastructure consistently meets their needs and the long term strategy is evolving to meet requirements.
Key responsibilities
Accountable for the security of non-corporate systems across Google DeepMind, ensuring the security and integrity of sensitive research data and intellectual property. Design, maintain, and optimize our virtualization stack, both on-premises and remote, to provide researchers with flexible and scalable computing environments Lead the Design, deployment and maintenance of OS & security patching infrastructure, and configuration management infrastructure Drive technological innovation: Proactively identify emerging technologies and collaborate with vendors to implement solutions that anticipate and meet the future needs of our research teams. Manage site upgrades, ensuring minimal disruption and maintaining operational stability for our critical research infrastructure. Partner with research teams on an ad hoc basis to understand their unique needs and provide tailored support Ensure facility documentation is up to date, accurate and accessible, fostering a culture of transparency and collaboration. Lead with innovative solutions: Apply your technical expertise and project management skills to tackle complex challenges, taking ownership and driving impactful solutions. Ensure high availability and quality of service across all research facilities through proactive monitoring, preventative maintenance, and rapid incident response. About you
We are a team of domain specialists, and we are looking for a candidate with deep Infrastructure Engineering experience. You should have a solid understanding of networking technology to inform troubleshooting, maintenance and planning and will partner closely with network engineers within the team.
In order to set you up for success as an Infrastructure Engineer at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience: Prior experience in a role accountable for information security of fleet Solid knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols Expertise in implementing and effectively helpdesk and IT operations practices, including substantial knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols Possess a logical approach to troubleshooting, and ability to analyse network behaviors using packet capture and inspection tools Experience working with fibre based infrastructure (MTP/MPO) Experience with scripting and automation tools such a python, bash, ansible, puppet You have a deep understanding of cloud technologies, specifically Google Cloud and have experience deploying cloud services Ability to work effectively at all levels in an organization, and collaboratively as part of a team Line management / mentorship experience You are excited to push the boundaries of technologies, identifying gaps in technology and working with equipment manufacturers to fill them!
The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $168,000 - $266,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
