Position Description & Summary
The Network Engineer works as a member of the infrastructure team to ensure the stability, integrity, and security of voice, data, video, and wireless network services both on premises and as it connects to remote resources. Shares a role in planning, designing, and developing networks across the organization. The Network Engineer will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. Analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesCreate and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.Participate in managing all network security solutions and keeps enterprise security as a paramount concern.Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.Collaborate with management and team to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.Design and deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, UPSs, and other hardware.Understand and apply best practices established for effective problem resolution for a high availability, 24/7, environment.Follow organizational change management practices to conform to defined process and standards.Remain current on the latest trends and technologies related to network technology (products, services, protocols, and standards), particularly the product roadmap and enhancements of existing technology deployments to understand how to better leverage these technologies.Participate in the evaluation of vendor proposals and plans to judge their efficacy.Participates in new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network appliances.Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge & Experience
Technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards.Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards.Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, WLAN, and WWAN design and implementation.Excellent hands on troubleshooting experience.Proven self-motivation, with keen attention to detail.Demonstrated application of quality written and oral communication skills.Demonstrated ability of interpersonal skills.Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language, in particular technical concepts to non-technical audiences.Strong customer service orientation.
Education
University degree or college diploma in the field of computer science or information systems or equivalent experience including at least 5 years of network and server operating systems. Network certifications preferred. Net+, CCNA, CCNP, etc.
