Job Summary:

The job of Transition Technician/WORKS is done for the purpose of providing "enhanced" Transition from School to Work (TSW) services, in collaboration with the transition teacher and other providers, to students who are clients of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR). This includes the coordination and execution of evidence-based job coaching strategies which are designed to enhance work potential and maximize the employability skills of students with developmental disabilities so they can pursue integrated work opportunities (with ongoing support/services from VR) after graduation.Essential

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Contribute to the process of planning and preparing lessons, internships, and other learning experiencesAssist students to engage in learning activities and complete assignmentsFacilitate pre-designed lessons/activities in class or community (1:1 or small groups)Model appropriate workplace skills and job tasks in simulated or real-world settingsUse pre-determined inventories, checklists, and assessments to identify student learning style, interests, preferences, strengths and needsTransport students to and from in district and community-based work sitesWork with supervisors and employees to ensure a mutual understanding of expectations for studentsCoach and supervise students in site-specific workplace behaviors, job tasks, and safety awarenessDevelop tools and resources to facilitate the application of learned skills and maximize performanceEmploy a gradual release of responsibility framework to foster independence in class and at workContribute to, model, and reinforce independent living skills that contribute to work readinessUse designated tools to monitor, assess, report, and reflect on student progressComplete mandatory documentation accurately and on timeMaintain positive and professional relationships with all stakeholdersPromote program by providing details and information about the purpose, process, and payoff (benefits)Collaborate with and exchange information with home school providersArrange VR-TSW meetings including mentor sessions, IPE review/sign, progress review, and senior exit.Attend ALL trainings, meetings, and professional learning activities by Peoria, RSA, and/or ADEFollow district and departmental policies and procedures and adhere to guidance given by certified staff and supervisors regarding workplace expectations and instructional practicesOther duties as assigned by Transition Coordinator and/or Transition Strategist

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

General knowledge of state and federal labor lawsGeneral knowledge of laws pertaining to special education & rights of employees with disabilitiesGeneral knowledge of methods/techniques for teaching life skills to students with disabilitiesGeneral knowledge of agencies/organizations that provide services to youth/adults with disabilities.Skill in operating a computer using common Microsoft applicationsSkill in collecting/managing data (digitally or paper/pen) and protecting confidential recordsSkill in accepting and providing feedback to improve workplace skills in class and communitySkill in keeping organized, being on time, prioritizing tasks, and meeting due dates/deadlinesAble to listen, read, and interpret information spoken or written in EnglishAble to speak and write clearly and concisely in English with good grammarAble to present information verbally in 1:1 and small groups (15-20 people)Able to modify/adapt communication strategies to match different ability levels and stylesAble to establish and maintain professional working relationships with ALL stakeholdersAble to work autonomously without direct supervisionAble to adapt and change routines/activities quickly as situations arriveMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSApplicant must have a regular high school diploma or G.E.D.; current Arizona Driver's License; current Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card; at least 1-year experience working with youth between the ages of 14-22OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Will be required to drive a district van or AV bus to transport students in the communityWill be required to take/pass an online driving class and be approved for insurabilityMay be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies/materials weighing up to 20 poindsMay be required to assist with daily living skills and transfer of students with mobility limitationsMay be required to start earlier or leave later than normal working hours
