Bloomberg runs on data, and the Bloomberg Data team is responsible for supplying it. Our department is responsible for collecting, analyzing, processing, and publishing the data that is the backbone of our iconic Bloomberg Terminal. We apply problem-solving skills to identify creative workflow efficiencies, and we implement technology solutions to enhance our systems, products and processes.
Our Team
With over 500,000 indices supported, the Index Automation team helps to ensure the highly automated and structured nature of disclosure from our data providers is processed efficiently and produces high quality data for our clients. One of the primary responsibilities of the team is to build and support ETL data pipelines at scale using the Data Technology Stack. In addition, the team focuses on workflow automation, data quality processes and the design of our data models to ensure we deliver data that is fit-for-purpose. This requires a team that is well-versed in data technologies and collaborates well with our partners in Engineering.
What’s the role?
The Third Party Indices Data team is looking for a highly motivated and technically savvy Team Leader to support and develop our team; a versatile team of data engineers. You will set the team’s technical strategy and deliver high quality data, tools and systems using good programming, project management and leadership skills.
Responsibilities:
Attract, coach, develop, and retain a team of versatile data engineers
Lead the team to partner with other data and core business groups to develop and improve fit-for-purpose data that powers our products, including functionality across the product set
Foster and maintain strong relationships with engineering teams, and maintain awareness of technological developments within the department and industry to drive innovations and align developments
Mobilize the team to design and implement proactive data quality management supported by client-focused metrics and process observability (i.e. business intelligence)
Develop data modeling and ETL skills within the team and collaborate with Engineering teams to develop a robust data product that can deliver value across multiple client-facing products (e.g. Terminal, Enterprise files, etc.)
Build processes and standards that enable delivery of data that meets or exceeds client SLAs and supports superior customer service
Manage and analyze internal processes to find opportunities for improvement, as well as devise and implement new innovative workflow solutions to improve quality and time to market for the Index dataset
Perform incident management, from troubleshooting and root cause analysis to overall problem management and client critical issues
Effectively project manage and set tangible team and product goals
You’ll need to have:
A minimum of 3+ years of relevant leadership experience or strong relevant experience as an individual contributor, and relevant domain knowledge
Technical experience to lead a team of data engineers and ensure high standards in production deliveries including deep technical competence in Python or another programming language
Expert-level knowledge of data processing paradigms and associated tools and technologies
Experience driving strategies, managing complex projects, and leadership ability in change management or influencing others
Demonstrable ability to use technology to develop innovative data products and processes
A Bachelor's degree in; Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related degree/equivalent experience
We’d love to see:
A Master's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or another computational or business field
Market knowledge in the index space: Methodology, fundamental calculations, contemporary trends in indexing, etc
Experience deploying and maintaining production workflows (e.g., ETL, predictive models)
Varied project management experience and/or certifications (CAPM, PMP and/or CSM)
Presence in virtual development communities such as GitHub, Stack Overflow and HackerRank
Experience using data visualization tools such as Tableau or QlikSense
