POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Communications Manager will focus on expanding the organization's communications efforts, storytelling campaigns, and Mamatoto Village’s reach. Working under the guidance of The Director of Development & Communications, the Communications Manager will be responsible for executing Mamatoto Village’s annual communications strategy.ATTRIBUTES OF A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATEAt least 4 years of marketing, graphic design, and communications experienceAt least 3 years of people management experienceA clear grasp of the core components of marketing and strategic communicationAble to translate complex content for different audiences and purposesA strong writer with experience creating compelling content and who has a passion for storytellingStrong experience in copywriting, branding, website, social media, producing print and electronic collateral (including newsletters, brochures, annual reports, direct mail, etc.), and project management.Ability to represent Mamatoto Village’s work with enthusiasm, intention, and authenticityHighly attentive to details and qualityA creative thinker willing to test out new ideas and take initiativeA strong self-motivatorExperience working on a community-based level and knowledge about maternal and public health issuesConsiderate listener and believes that the community voice must be centered.History of working with a diverse population in a mutually respectful manner, using a strengths-based approachEngages in critical inquiry to promote self-awareness and accountability and implement liberatory frameworks within personal and team objectives and deliverablesCommitment to racial justice and cultivating a space of belonging and inclusion.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. Other duties may need to be assigned to meet organizational needs.Leadership and Marketing StrategyContribute positively to organizational culture and reflect Mamatoto Village’s values.Work with the Director of Communications and Development to assist with strategic planning and implementation of communications projects.Oversee and supervise direct reports and provide guidance, direction, and support.Actively engage with Mamatoto Village staff and clients to truly understand Mamatoto Village’s mission and vision and to gather stories for various campaigns and initiatives.Project manage the execution of the annual communications calendar and content plan.Develop strong and consistent branding and creative and mission-centric messaging articulating Mamatoto Village's role in serving Black mothers and families.Stays informed of developments in the field of marketing and communications within the industry to foster ideas and innovation.Organizational CommunicationsManage creation, development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral, including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, annual reports, e-newsletters, Mamatoto Village website, and social media accounts.Utilize Google Analytics, paid advertising, and digital strategy to expand virtual reach.Work with Mamatoto Village team members to collect, organize, and share compelling stories from clients, staff, and community partners.In partnership with the Director of Development + Communications to craft and execute a multi-channel content strategy and campaigns for fundraising.Advocacy and StorytellingSupport and promote Mamatoto Village’s advocacy efforts through established communicationsTrack engagement metrics to determine the success of Mamatoto Village’s marketing effortsManage campaign logistics, production plans, and talent sourcingProspecting, managing, and stewarding relationships with project vendorsEvents and Community EngagementIn partnership with the Outreach and Engagement Coordinator, oversee and execute the communications and marketing strategy for all MV events and community engagement activities.Assist the Director of Development and Communications with media-related materials (press releases, media alerts, media lists, etc.)SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS TO FOSTER SUCCESSA Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, Health Communications, or a related fieldDemonstrable experience and success as a communications professional, with hands-on practice at branding, messaging, website, social media, producing print and electronic collateral (including newsletters, brochures, annual reports, e-newsletters, direct mail, etc.), and storytellingYou must reside in the DC Metro AreaExcellent verbal and written communication skillsExtensive experience working with online platforms such as MailChimp(or comparable email marketing software), Canva, Google products, WordPress, social media platforms, and other platforms that enable and enhance digital presenceExperience developing social media strategy and contentHigh proficiency in developing presentations using CanvaInterpret marketing analytics and use data to drive marketing strategies, outcomes, and improvementA documented history of successfully driving projects to completionA demonstrated ability to understand and articulate complex issuesEnthusiasm to propose fresh ideas without prompting by leadership, openness to feedback on those ideas, and persistence to bring those ideas to lifeA passion for doing transformative work with exceptional people while not taking yourself too seriouslyA “teamwork” mindset and the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness
