PURPOSE AND SCOPE: The Part-time Specialist I, Student Life under direct supervision, serves as front-line resource in the student center to ensure that students and other visitors follow applicable policies in a safe manner. Assists Student Life personnel with various events and tasks. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Advises student center visitors of policies for the use of the facility, rules for use of specific areas of the facility, and related information concerning the facility Issues equipment to patrons of the student center, ensuring that equipment is in good working condition upon check-out and return Monitors student center for safety and for compliance with facility policies Reports safety, cleanliness, and behavioral concerns to full time Student Life personnel or other personnel as needed (e.g., campus police, emergency services) Provides information concerning Student Life to student center visitors and directs more complex questions to full time Student Life personnel Assists with Student Life event set-up, operations, and clean-up At 30-minute intervals, walks through Center to observe use of facilities by qualified patrons and ensures that an accident has not occurred Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be detail oriented and a team player Must have availability to meet the scheduling needs of the department Good communication skills PHYSICAL ABILITIES: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS: Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED Salary
