Duties:
Candidates MUST be able to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in order to access DHS production systems and PII data. Must be able to meet CFIUS requirements. This position is remote. As a Linux/Unix System Administrator (second/third shift) for the North America Biometrics Programs team in Reston, Virginia, you will monitor, maintain, and administer hardware/software/configurations across multiple environments to ensure high availability and peak performance. You will update shift logs, assist with Operation System patching/upgrades, perform data backups and diagnostics, utilize command line for troubleshooting, and repair and restore systems to normal processing. In addition, you must have experience with monitoring; software problem solving; phone support during problem resolution; and disaster recovery operations. Essential Functions / Key Areas of Responsibility Leverage command line activities as you monitor and resolve performance related issues of biometric products, software, and networks Monitor server/software error messages displayed on monitoring fault-detection terminal and take appropriate actions to restore services as needed Perform installations and patching to maintain key applications and operating systems Document problems/issues in ticket tracking system Review and resolve tickets through the ticketing system, phone calls, and emails. Collaborate with other teams and provide client updates until issues are resolved Lead troubleshooting call bridge to ensure the incident is documented from start to closure Support deployment activities, including patching, upgrades, scripting etc. Ensure that your customers are satisfied throughout the process Review, update, and prepare shift logs for an efficient transition to new shift. Effectively multitask on a variety of complicated assignments
Skills:
Skills and Abilities: Minimum of three (3) years of system administration experience in a highly secure, Linux/Unix environment utilizing command line, monitoring tools, patching and scripting and excellent communications skills, oral and written. Team-oriented and self-motivated. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Preferred Qualifications AIX, Suse, and Windows administration and some Oracle/MySQL Database experience Special Position Requirements This position is subject to standard pre-employment background check This position is subject to post-hire third party background checks with state agencies This position is subject to requirements of CFIUS and will require U.S. Citizenship
Education:
Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, OR a minimum of five (5) years of experience in Linux/Unix
