About the Role
Lightship's mission to modernize and electrify RVs demands that we build a high competency in cutting edge vehicle design and manufacturing. As a Staff Design/Release Engineer working on the Power System, your job will be to ensure that our power electronics and other supplier designed modules meet all the functional, product, and technical requirements for our power system. You'll work closely with product and marketing teams to understand the voice of the customer and ensure the system is designed to create the best RVing experience possible. You'll also work closely with controls, vehicle, and other power systems engineers to ensure the modules integrate seamlessly into the broader vehicle to ensure safe and reliable operation. You will collaborate across Product, Design, Engineering, and beyond to make shrewd architectural decisions that hasten our path to market with an exceptional vehicle that redefines RVing.
ResponsibilitiesCreate and own the requirements documents for the various sourced power systems modules, including on-board charger, DC-DC converter, solar charge controllers, electric drive unit, etcCollaborate with the product and marketing team to distill functional and product requirements into technical requirements for the power system modulesCollaborate within the various engineering teams to create the technical requirements for the power system modules, including controls requirements, thermal requirements, voltage and power requirements, etcWork with the vehicle engineering team to package and mount all components in CADConduct design and manufacturability reviews with the manufacturing and production teams to ensure the modules are able to be assembled in a safe, and high quality mannerSupport DFMEA and HARA activities to understand how the power systems modules interact with the rest of the system to ensure safe and predictable performanceWork with the finance and vehicle attributes teams to set appropriate cost and mass targets for all power system componentsExecute supplier sourcing activities for all the power systems modules with the supply chain team, with key focus on technical fit, cost, mass, and supplier capabilityWork with the internal integration and test teams to validate the functions and requirements in prototype vehiclesCreate detailed timelines and development plans and collaborate with the program team to ensure these workstreams meet high level program milestonesMinimum Qualifications
BS in Mechanical, Electrical or Systems Engineering or equivalent experience8+ years of experience in electric vehicle HV systems, as a design engineer, DRE or systems engineerFamiliarity with electric vehicle systems, such as junction boxes, on-board chargers, HV batteries, traction inverters and power distribution systemsExperience creating system requirements documents, and working with suppliers to ensure components meet these requirementsExperience in full product development cycle: requirements definition, concept design, development, test, manufacturing, and sustainingExperience creating, updating, and releasing CAD models and drawingsPreferred Qualifications
Experience creating product development plans and test plansExperience creating interconnect diagrams and system schematicsExperience designing EV power electronics and HV battery packsExperience in automotive or transportation industries (truck/bus/rail)Experience creating complex CAD models and drawings.Experience with CATIA and GD&TEquity
Lightship compensation consists of the yearly salary above plus equity, which gives you a stake in the company.
$130,000 - $170,000 a year
