Overview:HKS is seeking a Sustainable Design Professional to join our team.
Supports project teams using a wide range of developing professional skills. Performs basic design and technical tasks requiring application of standard techniques and knowledge of sustainability while working under general supervision. Eager to learn, highly organized and willing to contribute creatively to the team.
Responsibilities:ProjectConducts whole building and component embodied carbon Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) using industry software such as Tally and One ClickIntegral in influencing and delivering quality sustainable low energy designLiaisons with stakeholders to develop and advance their sustainability strategiesIdentifies sustainability risks and appropriate mitigation measuresCreates models to illustrate plans, processes and designsSupports internal training for technical staffModifies or creates LEED or other rating system-specific documents, applying standard sustainable design techniques, collaborative design computations and procedures as assigned under directionPerforms routine assignments and may have some design responsibility collaborating with other team members as designatedConducts research on local, regional and global project sustainability context, building materials, sustainable strategies and third-party rating systems (LEED, WELL, etc.)Prepares draft reports with written and graphic contentAssists with enterprise level Environmental, Social & Governance workAssists with the creation and maintenance of firm-wide content on the HKS intranetAssists design teams in performance and energy analysis assignmentsMay attend on-site visits, field reviews and client and/or project meetings as appropriateMay assist in preparing proposals, presentations, schedules and processing of system-specific documentation and samplesCulturalMay participate in communication with other disciplines, vendors and contractors to incorporate information into project requirementsParticipates in team meetings to discuss project issues, design and technical issues and coordination with other disciplinesPerforms work in a manner that demonstrates an awareness of and an appreciation for the firm's cultural values, including a commitment to quality, innovation, learning and growthBecomes skilled in fostering and maintaining a collaborative professional working relationship with the project teamFosters awareness of and assists in advancing the firm's principles of 'design excellence' in the integration of responsible and sustainable design practice with the art of designFinancialDevelops understanding of the firm's basic accounting principles, project budgets and feesUnderstands the financial implications of overhead and chargeable time, including accountability to project plan and planned utilization rateRevenue or Opportunity GenerationFosters awareness of the importance of growing and maintaining client relationships and the basic concept of business developmentMay assist in production of marketing presentationsParticipates with civic, community and industry professional organizations with commitment and professional integrity to represent HKSQualifications:Graduate degree preferredWorking knowledge of embodied carbon calculations including data sources such as EC3 and Environmental Produce Declarations (EPDs)Experience with whole building Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) analysis softwareAccredited professional degree in Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Design or related fieldOn the path to architectural registration or professional engineering licensure preferredTypically with 3+ years of experienceSustainable design accreditation preferredKnowledge of software such as Revit, Grasshopper, AutoCAD, Navisworks and 3D modeling preferredKnowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup and InDesign graphic software preferredProficiency in MS Office Suite preferredKnowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelinesKnowledge of energy modeling/ building analysis simulationKnowledge of building codes and high-performance standardsAbility to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally, graphically and in writingAbility to problem solve and collaborate on innovative solutionsAbility to work in team environmentAbility to work on multiple projects at the same timeAbility to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality#LI-KT1Base Salary Range: $63k - $85.1k annually - Denver, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, New York, and Washington D.C. locations onlyThe estimate displayed represents the general base salary range of candidates hired in Denver, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, New York, and Washington D.C. locations only.
