Job Description

Upward Bound (UB) is a federally funded TRIO program that serves first-generation, low-income and disabled students. All services provided to UB participants are incorporated into approved program objectives that meet secondary school completion and postsecondary school entry goals. The UB Program Coordinator position involve the planning, coordination, and implementation of the UB program and its' initiatives which include workshops, seminars, and training sessions. The project coordinator serves as the assistant for the TRIO Program and is responsible for assisting the UB staff with carrying out the duties and the program objectives. The Coordinator oversees and coordinates the daily flow functions and ensure the program objectives are met. The UB Program Coordinator will report to the TRIO Director and the Assistant Director.

This position is based out of the Rocky Mount, NC Satellite Office.

Responsibilities:Provide year-round on-site coordination and leadership of the TRIO Upward Bound program initiatives to assigned high schools and participants;Identifying and recruiting low-income, first generation students, or students who have academic need for services in grades 9-12;Assist with, and maintain a caseload of 80 UB participants;Meet with Assistant Director and Director as needed to track progress;Provide on-site coordination and leadership of the TRIO Upward Bound program initiatives to assigned high schools;Administer bi-monthly Saturday sessions during September through May, in addition to coordinating and facilitating the six-week summer component;Meet with target school administration ref. UB;Advise all target school counseling staff on school visits;Visiting target area schools twice a month, Monday through Thursday;Conducting home visits as needed in ref. to gathering needed materials or to advise participants and families on UB/TRIO information;Giving verbal and /or visual presentations on UB/TRIO;Arranging and conducting college, cultural, and business tours per academic year for participant exposure;Rendering academic and personal advisement to all participants;Arranging tutorial assistance for participants;Assist with maintaining and updating paperwork and manuals for UB;Assist Assistant Director, Computer Technician, and Administrative Assistant with compiling and completing the US Dept. of ED's Annual Performance Report;Arrange workshops for participants and parents, including but not limited to career, vocational, personal development, study skills, decision making, SAT/ACT, financial aid, test taking, course selection, and admissions seminars;Developing two workshops per year (one per semester);Adopting two outside agencies (one no later than November, the second, no later than February) within assigned target area per grant year;Making individual referrals to educational institutions, and other similar educational programs;Maintain accurate and detailed student recordsReceiving participant's grades per reporting period;Performing all graduate surveys by August 31st of each grant year;Travel approximately 25% of the time, which will involve nights and weekends as necessary;Delivering documented services to computer technician weekly for data input;Other duties as assigned by the Director.Saint Augustine's University (SAU), drawing on its rich legacy as an access institution, is a student-focused, comprehensive educational institution that produces outstanding graduates prepared for personal and professional success. Bachelor's degree;Comparable proven experience working with low income, first generation, traditionally underrepresented and/or disabled students;Excellent oral and written communication skills;Prior experience with UB and/or other TRIO programs; andExperience in a higher education setting, providing advising services or counseling to students who are educationally, economically and otherwise disadvantaged.Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree preferred in Education, Counseling or related field

Physical Demands

Occasional need to lift at least 20 pounds;Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time;Frequent need for oral, written and auditory communication;Valid North Carolina driver's license at all times;Valid North Carolina DMV vehicle registration on any vehicle used for the job at all times;Must be willing to travel geographically within the designated target area on a regular basis;Frequent repetitive hand and wrist motions;Occasional need for travel; andAbility to work in fast paced and/or sometimes stressful situations.
