Job Description
Wellmark is adding to their Paralegal team! We have 3 openings and will consider hiring at the Associate Paralegal or Paralegal level.
As a member of our Paralegal team, you will assist legal counsel and internal business areas in providing effective legal support to Wellmark's business activities, litigation, regulatory, compliance, and government relations matters by demonstrating highest ethical and professional standards and by providing highest quality legal services. You will also provide support to operational areas handling Insurance Division Inquiries and consumer appeals, as well as inquiries related to health insurance claims.

Qualifications
Required:High School Diploma or GED4+ years' work experience in insurance, health, finance, business, or legal fieldStrong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to concisely convey your messageDemonstrated strength in critical thinking, problem-solving, and desire for continuous learningDemonstrated interpersonal skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationshipsDemonstrated proficiency in using various Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.Demonstrated proficiency in using online legal research tools, including WestlawStrong organizational skills with high attention to detailParalegal level requires the additional qualifications:
Associate's degree in paralegal, insurance, health, finance, business OR related degree or equivalent work experienceMinimum 4 years paralegal, legal assistant, insurance or subrogation recovery related experience
Preferred:
Paralegal degree or certificate, or other post-secondary educationParalegal, legal assistant, insurance or subrogation recovery related experienceExperience with claim processing, special inquiries or appeals, or escalated complex customer service investigation and response relating to insurance claims environments
Additional Information
a. Provide assistance to operational areas handling Insurance Division Inquiries and consumer appeals, as well as complex escalated customer service inquiries relating to health insurance claims.
b. Under the direction of in-house Corporate Counsel will provide support and assistance to department attorneys and business areas.
c. Review, summarize, and maintain complete and current litigation and project files by monitoring incoming/outgoing information, organizing materials logically and chronologically, and timely reporting key information to counsel.
d. Develop and maintain an ongoing knowledge of the laws, regulations and guidance that apply to the company's business.
e. Develop and maintain relationships with key individuals in business areas the legal team interacts with frequently, to become a trusted source of information and guidance regarding industry laws and regulations.
f. Compose and complete accurately, timely, and in proper form business documents, such as correspondence, memoranda, contracts, forms, and regulatory reports.
g. Research and prepare written and verbal summaries of federal and state laws, regulations, and court decisions.
h. Compile facts and documents by gathering information, interviewing personnel, researching issues, and compiling results.
i. Identify and implement ongoing process improvements within the Department or works with other Departments on process improvement initiatives.
j. Participate as an effective team member in the Legal Department by assisting other members of the team and by cross-training and self-development.
k. Collaborate with corporate counsel and senior paralegals with regard to all matters.
l. For all job accountabilities, meet performance standards and comply with other job requirements as established and communicated by incumbent's leadership.
m. Other duties as assigned.
