Position DescriptionJuma is seeking an experienced fundraiser and nonprofit leader to help fuel its mission in the San Francisco Bay Area. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Bay Area Director of Development will play a critical role in Juma's impact on the young people it serves across two regional sites in San Francisco and San Jose, California.They will, individually and in conjunction with the national and regional development teams, help sustain and grow Juma’s local base of philanthropic support.This position requires exceptional drive and passion for our work and a commitment to working in partnership with local philanthropic communities. You’ll be a strategic fundraiser with outstanding donor cultivation and stewardship skills. You will also work independently and collaboratively, showing resourcefulness, flexibility, and professionalism.The San Francisco Bay Area Director of Development will also support partnership development across Juma’s social enterprise and youth programming activities, serving as a senior leader for the San Francisco and San Jose Site teams.Duties and ResponsibilitiesManaging and growing a portfolio of Bay Area institutional and individual funders with a current annual fundraising goal of $2 million, leading donors through the cultivation and stewardship cycles. Juma anticipates a 5-8% year-over-year growth in its regional budget and fundraising goal. The San Francisco Bay Area Development Director will position Juma’s two Bay Area Sites for long-term sustainability by focusing on the following areas:External Fundraising (50% of the time)Institutional Funders: An estimated portfolio of 50 donors, currently contributing $1.5 million annuallyIn partnership with the Chief Development Officer, and Chief Executive Officer, manage and serve as the relationship lead for Bay Area institutional funders, focusing on building intentional and effective partnerships.Collaborate with the Senior Director of Institutional Giving, Grants Managers, Program Managers, and other organizational leaders in preparing and presenting organizational materials, including presentations, funding proposals, and reports to prospective and current funders.Individual Funders: An estimated portfolio of 25 donors with capacity to donate $1,000 or moreIn partnership with the Director of Individual Giving and the Individual Giving Manager, identify, solicit, cultivate, and steward Bay Area individual donors with capacity to donate $1,000 or more, with an eye to connect or engage with high-net-worth individuals likely to make and increase their gifts in the future.Collaborate with the Director of Individual Giving and the Individual Giving Manager to create and establish an annual Bay Area individual giving plan, ensuring timely outreach and innovative in-person cultivation activities and events are held.Event Fundraising: Contributing $350,000 annuallyIn partnership with the Director of Individual Giving and the Individual Giving Manager, identify, solicit, cultivate, and steward corporate and individual sponsors to underwrite Juma’s annual Paths to Possibility Celebration, ensuring financial goals are achieved.Institutional Giving Support (20% of the time)In partnership with the Senior Director of Institutional Giving, the California Director of Government Grants and Grants Managers ensure a strategic and effective grant-writing process for the Bay Area. This includes:Supporting the writing, creating, and proofreading of compelling proposals and reports.Local Advisory Board Leadership (20% of the time)In partnership with the Chief Development Officer and Director of Individual Giving, engage the San Jose Local Advisory Board, composed of community professionals, Juma champions, and an alumnae of our program.The San Francisco Bay Area Director of Development will:Lead the work of and act as the organization liaison for the San Jose Local Advisory Board partnering with board members to develop and implement an annual engagement strategy for the board.In partnership with the Director of Individual Giving and Individual Giving Manager, plan and execute Advisory Board supported events and initiatives.Local Site Leadership (10% of the time)The San Francisco Bay Area Director of Development will help deepen the impact our program has on youth by:Collaborating with the San Francisco and San Jose Site Teams and Juma’s National Team to align core department goals and workflow (across Development, Program, and Social Enterprise departments)QualificationsMinimum of seven years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the nonprofit philanthropic, private, or public sectors.Proven track record in driving relationships with philanthropic institutions and individuals investing in six-figure grants/gifts.Strong connections across the Bay Area nonprofit and philanthropic communities.Skilled in creating robust, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising, including the ability to convey complex ideas through simple and brief materials.Proficiency in Salesforce (or other CRM Systems such as Raiser’s Edge).Ability to work nights and weekends as necessary.Demonstrated knowledge and respect for youth development principles and youth leadership and culture.An advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging practices.Members of underrepresented communities, including those identifying as people of color/bicultural, LGBTQ+, and those with lived experiences in the foster care or juvenile justice systems, are especially encouraged to apply.Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.Job DetailsReports to:

Juma maintains a hybrid work environment. The San Francisco Bay Area Director of Development will be expected to work out of the organization’s San Francisco office two days per week. Additionally, as this is an external-facing fundraising role, the Development Director must travel throughout the region to attend meetings per business needs.Education:
