About Walmart Energy Transformation
The Walmart Energy Transformation strategy aims to decarbonize our operations while capturing emerging new value streams that help catalyze societal decarbonization. Walmart has recently committed to bringing 10 GW of clean energy online by 2030, in addition to our stated goals of 50% clean powered by 2025, 100% clean powered by 2035, and zero emissions in our operations by 2040. Part of these goals also includes 1 GW of new clean energy on-site.
In addition to new build clean energy assets, we aim to increase energy efficiency and reduce emissions across our facilities and transition our fleet to zero emissions vehicles. We also aim to build a public EV charging network to provide energy choice and affordability for our customers and local communities.
We are a team of seasoned energy veterans dedicated to realizing Walmart's regenerative commitments and leveraging Walmart's platform to support the decarbonization of our customers, associates, communities, and suppliers. Because energy touches everything, we work across Walmart, particularly real estate, facilities, supply chain, network design, transportation, and customer experience. This position is a part of the Distribution Generation Development team, and the team reports directly to the COO of Walmart US and the Chief Sustainability Officer. In this role, you will report to the Senior Director, Energy Solutions. This position is based in Bentonville, Arkansas. No remote candidates being considered now.
What you will do...
In coordination with third-party developers and stakeholders, assess project feasibility of on-site Distributed Generation (DG) projects while considering factors such as energy market dynamics, internal operational metrics, project economics, incentives, regulations, potential risk, permitting requirements, and project timelines.
Lead early-stage site development of on-site DG projects (project development from design stages to EPC team) through collaboration with stakeholders, consultants, and engineers.
Apply technologies such as solar, energy storage, fuel cells, microgrid controls to operational challenges spanning access to power, resilience, operational savings, and environmental benefits.
Translate an understanding of energy markets into actionable development strategies that deliver economic value and/or address heightened needs for energy security and reliability at critical assets.
Support internal technology team and external software companies by providing subject matter expertise to implement software solutions aimed to identify and prioritize key areas for deployment of energy assets.

A proven track record of developing and implementing battery or alternative generator (e.g., fuel cell) microgrids
A proven track record of successfully strategizing and executing projects from start to finish, preferably in the DG space; proficiency in utilizing project development platforms and tools a must have.
Strong familiarity with commercial electric utility tariffs, retail energy supply structures, and the ability to analyze the impact of DG such as solar, batteries, and fuel cells on resulting energy costs to the facility
Experience with integration DG resources with Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) truck charging applications
Ability to autonomously leverage large datasets to develop insights and, for more complex analysis, ability to interface and coordinate with data science and technology teams to direct development of applications and dashboards
Knowledge of and proficiency in energy storage or fuel cell project development, technologies and surrounding use cases, and typical commercial terms.
Extensive expertise in project finance, origination, and business case development
A strong commitment to fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability among diverse teams
Exceptional negotiation and communication abilities and strong project management skills with the ability to drive multiple priorities concurrently

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00-$180,000.00
