Job Description
We are looking for smart systems software engineers with BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science to join the Exadata Team @ Oracle Server Technologies ( http://www.oracle.com/database/exadata.html ) to work on Automatic Storage Management (ASM). Oracle Exadata technology is the newest innovation in Oracle's history as the provider of the industry's number one database technology. Exadata group (Server Technologies Division) is responsible for the development of all aspects of the Exadata Storage Server and Exadata Database Machine which is named as Oracle’s most successful new product. Oracle Exadata technology powers the highest performance Oracle Database Cloud service.
We design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug software for databases, storage systems, applications, tools, network, etc
As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. You will be responsible for defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.
Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.

Our group, Automatic Storage Management (aka ASM), is responsible for building highly available, scalable, and efficient tools to solve customers' storage problems. ASM is a central part of the Oracle Database's storage strategy. While it is versatile enough to run with any physical storage backend, ASM is also the key storage solution that enables the database to run in engineered systems such as the Exadata Database Machine and the Oracle Database Appliance (ODA).
ASM is part of the greater Oracle Exadata team. Oracle Exadata technology powers the highest performance Oracle Database Cloud service. Oracle Exadata Cloud Service allows customers to easily move enterprise applications to the cloud with the high performance, scale, and availability of Oracle Exadata and the simplicity of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Advanced cloud automation, dynamic resource scaling, and flexible subscription pricing enable customers to run database workloads faster and lower costs.
Exadata Database Machine is the only database appliance in the industry that is capable of providing extreme performance for data warehousing, OLTP and consolidated workloads. Built using database and storage software from Oracle and industry standard hardware from Sun/Intel, Exadata Database Machine provides a fully optimized engineered system for best performance, scalability and high availability.
The primary focus of the ASM group is to solve storage management problems and improve data availability. As a member of this team, you will participate in the research, design, and implementation of the core components of the ASM infrastructure.

Degree level (BS/MS/PhD): Bachelors/Masters/PhD

Preferred coursework: Computer System, Algorithm, Parallel Programming
Excellent C, C++ programming skills
Development experience on Linux
debugging and troubleshooting skills
Should be familiar and conversant with the classes of storage architectures that are currently available.
Should have demonstrated experience in the area of storage systems programming for example file systems or volume managers.
Other qualifications: Ability to debug complex systems problems; strong motivation or background to work on parallel and distributed algorithms to scale systems
Must reside in or around the Redwood City, CA area

US: Hiring Range: from $94,200 to $223,500 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
