Job Description
Full-time position in Virginia Tech's Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation focused on multiple externally-funded national and regional agroforestry project support and technical assistance supervised by Dr. John Munsell. Position tasks include nationwide recruitment of agroforestry producer grant applicants, remote and on-farm consultation for funded agroforestry projects, technical assistance and development of resources to increase agroforestry knowledge and facilitate successful implementation, organizing agroforestry-focused off-campus events such as farm tours and workshops, as well as supporting select on-farm research projects. The coordinator will work closely with a team of faculty, post-doctoral associates, and graduate students and liaise with external project partners. Travel four days per month expected.Position responsibilities include: 1) Assisting agroforestry grant applicants and awardees from across the country in terms of navigating funder requirements necessary to receive financial assistance; 2) Providing technical assistance to agroforestry producers in terms of project design, scope, market potential, and budgeting; 3) Traveling to farms for preparatory site visits and project verification when required; 4) Supporting on-farm research and demonstration initiatives; 4) Participating in outreach to increase agroforestry knowledge and successful implementation; and 5) Representing agroforestry funding and technical assistance programs during partner meetings and at public events as needed.
Required Qualifications• Bachelor of Science or higher in natural resources or forest management• Advanced studies in agroforestry• Applied agroforestry and farm experience• Producer outreach and engagement experience• Demonstrated dedication to the field of agroforestry• Strong communication skills
Preferred Qualifications• Experience administering agroforestry funding programs• Advanced training in agroforestry management• Farm and infrastructure design and management experience• Bachelor of Science in a technical field focused on landscape management• Agroforestry design and implementation experience• Proven communication and engagement skills with farmers and forestland owners
