JOB SCOPE: The CCBHC Medical Director leadership is a multidimensional activity that includes the direction and oversight of administrative, operational, educational, and clinical actions related to patient care activities to ensure that care provided and the process by which care is provided by CCBHC personnel meets standard of quality medical and psychiatric care including integration of physical healthcare, Mental Health and SUD treatment. The position requires experience providing psychiatric services to a diverse population across the lifespan, including treatment of children. CCBHC Medical Director oversight is a cooperative effort requiring other CCBHC clinicians and staff working together for effective treatment and service delivery. The Medical Director must have a collaborative and cooperative approach to working with CCBHC leadership and staff, as there are many who will work in concert to ensure the CCBHC is functioning optimally. While the CCBHC Medical Director may provide direct provision of services in some parts of the system, the Medical Director role is one of guidance, standard setting, and monitoring and assuring the delivery of a good standard of care for persons being treated and served by the system. The CCBHC Medical Director should provide a role model in their interactions with others for delivery of care that is recovery oriented, customer centered, culturally competent, and inclusive and welcoming of diversity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Ensure that CCBHC consumers receive appropriate evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, & medical screening, and that all care is integrated and appropriately documented in the medical record.

Participate in formulation, monitoring, and implementation of all policies and procedures that direct CCBHC activities.

Able to identify and problem solve gaps in treatment or service delivery from both behavioral and physical health system perspectives.

Ensures the provision of client centered, culturally and linguistically appropriate services.

Recruiting, evaluating, and supervising all medical positions, including psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, nurses, and medical students (when applicable).

Assures that all clinical staff receive appropriate clinical supervision, staff development, and in-service training, with a focus on evidence-based practices, trauma informed, recovery oriented and integrated care.

Providing direct psychiatric services to a caseload of consumers.

Provide medical consultation to a multi-disciplinary staff.

Facilitate and participate in clinical case conferences to direct interdisciplinary care plans in response to high-risk or high-need individuals or families.

Assists and advises CCBHC Director and Deputy VP for Clinical Operations in the development and review of CCBHC programs, staffing patterns, and budgets that impact the delivery of clinical services.

Participates in the agency wide Incident Report Committee

Works with the DVP of Clinical Operations and Quality Improvement Department to ensure quality of treatment and internal/external regulatory compliance.

Spearheads quality initiatives as identified internally, or through community needs assessments.

Acts as a liaison for the CCBHC with community partners, hospital staff, and other professionals with regard to behavioral health services.

Performs any other duties identified by the Deputy VP for Clinical Operations or other agency administrators.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Must have a commitment to understanding individuals and families in the context of their socio-cultural experience and to psychodynamic treatment.

Leadership ability in providing psychiatric services to a diverse population of children, adults & families and providing psychiatric consultation to a multi-discipline staff.

Excellent communication skills and ability to foster a collaborative environment for all clinical and administrative staff, other professional staff and agencies, clients and families.

Knowledge and experience of electronic health records (specifically AWARDS by Foothold) preferred.

Experience in developing behavioral health programing and providing administrative oversight of evidence-based treatment modalities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

MD in Psychiatry.

NYS License in Psychiatry required.

Board Certified in Psychiatry.

Experience with psychiatric evaluations, psychopharmacology, and dynamic psychotherapy involving diverse pathology.

Extensive experience working with people with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders and primary health care problems.
