Job Description SummaryThe Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer (CIO) will be responsible for providing vision and leadership for the operations, integration, and implementation of information systems for Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (SRAlab) in support of the overall strategic, research and operating plans for the system.

The CIO will ensure the applications, infrastructure, analytics, and information security will continue to meet the needs of the growing system and align with SRAlab’s strategic plan. They will embrace proven leading practice and be able to lead technology improvement initiatives that optimize current systems, with a focus on data analytics and AI. The CIO will consistently demonstrate support of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact with or in the interest of the institute.

Job Responsibilities

Provide technology expertise in the strategic planning process by integrating the future trends in healthcare technology, and data analytics with the current needs of SRAlab.

Lead in the development of the IT strategic plan as well as the ongoing forecasting efforts to assure the system is appropriately anticipating future technology needs.

Act as the executive champion for the design and architecture of an innovative enterprise-wide information system, including ensuring systems to provide necessary data to support SRAlab’s quality and performance improvement initiatives.

Maintain and expand networks within the technology and healthcare communities, to identify and leverage opportunities that enhance SRAlab’s strategic positioning and technology partnerships.

Champion data-driven decision-making with advanced data and analytics across the organization in partnership with key stakeholders by establishing best practices for data acquisition, governance, analytics, and outcomes.

Develop and maintain information technology systems and services that provide excellent levels of customer services, demonstrate high reliability, and meet service recovery expectations while ensuring such systems are compliant and meet security and privacy standards.

Keep current with changes in technology, public legislative and social policy which impact the system, providing analysis and recommendations to Executive Leadership on policy positions.

Utilize metrics to drive IT performance; lead the IT team as a data-driven department.

Benchmark the industry to stay current with trends regarding information technology and its use inside and outside of healthcare.

Lead change management efforts to support SRAlab’s digital transformation, ensuring staff and stakeholders are prepared, trained and aligned with technology changes.

Oversee the IT budget and align financial resources with strategic priorities, ensuring cost-effective technology investments that maximize SRAlab’s return on investment.

Maintain a high level of training and development processes for all SRAlab administrative, management, physician, and staff to assure levels of competency using the various organization’s technologies are maintained.

Promote effective, open communication and strong collaborative working relationships throughout the organization.

Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

Reporting RelationshipsReports directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

A minimum of 10 years of experience with a thorough knowledge of general IT work is required. Healthcare emphasis is strongly preferred.

A minimum of 5 years’ experience as an IT Director of a hospital is required. Vice President and/or CIO level leadership strongly preferred, especially in the healthcare setting, particularly provider.

The successful candidate is required to demonstrate knowledge of best practice, contemporary IT processes with proven experience in establishing a successful organizational and effective processes as well as transforming organizational IT to a highly effective performance level.

Excellent history of establishing strong customer relationships with internal clients.

Success in managing through influence, persuasion, and example with demonstrated ability to work effectively in a matrix environment and must be able to work closely and effectively with physicians (internal and community), hospital administrators and employees and community interests.

Proven ability to effectively establish and deliver critical performance metrics and act as a role model for achieving high performance standards.

Demonstrated record of fact-based decision making. Must have excellent overall leadership skills and experience in managing large scale IT operations.

Experience with ITSM and common security frameworks.

Knowledge/expertise of enterprise infrastructure design and management.

Ability to deal with troubleshooting problems of information systems.

Demonstrated effectiveness with strong written communication skills including report presentation.

Evidence of effective people leadership, including talent development and succession planning, to maintain high levels of technical competency and alignment with evolving industry standards.

Strong analytical and operational problem solving/decision-making skills.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain various types of data to guide decision-making and reporting.

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft software including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Evidence and knowledge of quality systems, lean six sigma, and continuous improvement project systems.

Evidence and knowledge of budgeting and financial analysis and best practice IT control programs and initiatives.

Working ConditionsNormal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
