We are looking for a Senior Data and Applied Scientist to join our team! Microsoft Azure Edge + Platform (E+P) is a globally distributed team of engineers, architects, program managers, product managers, business program managers, business administrators, user experience researchers and designers who are responsible for the platform for Microsoft and for delivering Microsoft’s edge vision. We create the most reliable and trustworthy OS and platform services to empower Microsoft and our customers to achieve more. We unlock the next wave of opportunity at the edge through an at-scale ecosystem driving widespread adoption of our Microsoft cloud services.The Data Science team is an important part of Azure AIOps endeavors to make Azure the most secure, reliable and intelligent cloud in the world. This team employs state-of-the-art techniques of diagnostic/prescriptive analytics and AI/ML to deliver cloud-native analytics software that generates data used for both real-time and strategic decision-making.ResponsibilitiesDiscover and frame business challenges into solvable problem statements.Design & develop analytics solutions or products with heuristics, statistical analysis, machine learning, and/or generative AI.Collaborate with product managers, software engineers, and end users.Write technical reports and collaborate with Microsoft researchers on strategic projects.QualificationsRequired/Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research)OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)Demonstrated real-world experience in analytics, machine learning, or generative AI.Fluent programming with Python, R, SQL, or equivalent languages.Fundamental knowledge of probability & statistics, machine learning, and AI.Other Requirements:Cloud Background check: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Additional or Preferred QualificationsMaster's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)3+ years experience creating publications (e.g., patents, libraries, peer-reviewed academic papers).Experience presenting at conferences or other events in the outside research/industry community as an invited speaker.3+ years experience conducting research as part of a research program (in academic or industry settings).1+ year(s) experience developing and deploying live production systems, as part of a product team.1+ year(s) experience developing and deploying products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping.Software engineering skills to build an ML/AL pipeline end-to-end.Understanding of cloud computing and big-data platforms.Demonstrated ability in solving complex problems under ambiguities.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability and passion to collaborate with stakeholders of a diversity of background.Ability and passion to master new technologies and apply them to real business problems.Applied Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
