Description
SAIC seeks a highly experienced Principal Systems Engineer to support the US Space Force (USSF). The Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for the design and implementation of IT systems that require the integration of diverse and complex components. Activities include creating a problem statement, defining operational requirements, researching, and modeling the system architecture and configuration, investigation alternatives, cost analysis and estimation, and decision analysis.
This team is responsible for the engineering and deployment of USSF Cloud Initiatives, designed to streamline performance, reduce administrative overhead and workload, and deliver a seamless user experience with our customers.
This work supports the USSF Operational C2 Mission under Kobayashi Maru. USSF has multiple cloud environments in an existing global, interconnected, disparate, virtualized, hybrid, and Enterprise IT infrastructure hosting mission systems, applications, services, and data that serves the U.S. Space Force (USSF) and other Government Customers.
Key Duties:
Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software or engineering specifications.
Provides specific, detailed information for selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs.
Lead and oversee the engineering team in the design, development, and integration of complex systems for the USSF.
Develop and implement systems engineering strategies that align with project objectives and customer requirements.
Collaborate with stakeholders, including government representatives and contractors, to ensure system solutions meet mission goals.
Analyze and resolve engineering issues, ensuring system integrity and compliance with standards.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and staff.
Prepare and present technical documentation and reports to senior management and stakeholders.
Participate in risk management and ensure adherence to project schedules and budgets.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree with 9+ years’ related experience.
Active Secret to TS/SCI clearance.
Experience developing and/or sustaining national security, no-fail mission systems.
Experience managing large-scale Agile or DevSecOps teams/projects.
Experience leading waterfall-to-agile transformations.
Experience with a broad range of system types.
Experience with configuration and data management, hardware and software test & evaluation of classified systems.
Experience with implementing and sustaining distributed systems, virtual operating system environments, and multi-cloud networking solutions.
Experience translating operational requirements into system requirements.
Required Certifications:
INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) or equivalent.
Desired Skills:
Experience with space systems, satellite operations, or other space-related technologies.
Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools.
Knowledge of relevant regulatory and industry standards.
Experience working with cross-functional teams and large-scale projects.
PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.
Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
