Kalamazoo Valley is seeking a
Director of Institutional Research
whose primary responsibility is to support the instructional mission of the institution and to promote positive student and customer relations. The individual in this position will also provide leadership and strategic direction for institutional research, data analytics, institutional strategic planning, and data governance.Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:Plan, direct and evaluate the operational, financial and personnel activities of the department; provide administrative leadership and supervision; prepare annual operating budget recommendations; develop, implement and monitor assigned budgets; and, develop, implement and administer departmental operating policies and procedures.Lead the college’s Institutional Research team, ensuring compliance with local, state and federal reporting requirements, supporting college grant activity, providing timely and accurate data to college leadership for decision-making and implementing best practices in data reporting and analytics.Lead the Institutional Research team and work collaboratively with the Information Technology team to develop and manage the institutional data analytics dashboard, including managing user accounts, ensuring data updates are completed in a timely manner, providing user training and guidance.Perform analysis of quantitative and qualitative data. Prepare data reports and communications for internal and external stakeholders. Serve as the primary point of contact for all data questions and requests.Work collaboratively with peers across the college to design and utilize software tools for data collection and reporting. Work across the institution to manage communication strategies.Co-Chair the Data Governance Committee which leads efforts to ensure data accuracy, integrity and accessibility. Collaborate with institutional stakeholders to develop, implement and maintain common definitions for data. Monitor institutional compliance with data governance policies and procedures.Develop and deliver data literacy training across the college.Serve as lead and primary point of contact for the Institutional Review Board. Field and address all data requests and inquiries for the college, both internal and external. Support the development, design, deployment and analysis for college surveys.Attend trainings, read periodicals and attend professional meetings to remain current with changes in the field. May be asked to serve on and/or present information to college committees.Reports to:
Associate Vice President for Collaboration, Compliance and Analytics.Supervisory Responsibilities:
Administrative and functional supervision is exercised over approximately three full-time employees.Skills and Knowledge Required:Knowledge of acceptable research standards and operations.Knowledge of institutional policies and procedures.Knowledge of acceptable supervisory practices.Knowledge of data collection and analytics tools.Ability to provide forward-thinking, strategic leadership.Ability to read and understand data.Knowledge of academic practices and procedures.Skill in planning and coordinating a comprehensive institutional research function.Strong oral and written communications skills.Ability to explain data in a manner that others can understand.Skill in managing multiple priorities.Skill in working under time constraints.Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.Customer Service oriented.Minimum Qualifications:A combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. An example of this would be a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field and three years of related experience.Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
Prior experience in higher education preferred.Work Hours:
