This position reports to the Lead or Supervisor.WHAT YOU WILL DOPrepares food and water for habitat wildlifeLoads and unloads food from trucksFeeds exhibit wildlifeAdministers prescribed medication and keeps feeding recordsObserves assigned wildlifeReports abnormal conditions to superiorsCleans exhibit areas, pools, wildlife sleeping areas and service areasCleans and disinfects utensils, work tools and containersProvides species-appropriate enrichment to assigned wildlifeMaintains appropriate health and behavior records on assigned wildlifeResponds to questions from the public concerning exhibitsParticipates in capturing, incapacitating and moving wildlifeParticipates in and supports wildlife training programsAssists medical staff in treating wildlifePerforms minor or routine maintenance on exhibit enclosuresReports maintenance needsOperates a variety of light and medium equipmentWHAT WE ARE LOOKING FORJOB EXPERIENCEOne to two years of work experience in a Zoo or similar environment where appropriate knowledge and skills in wildlife care could be acquired.EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONSBachelor’s Degree in Zoology, Life Science, or other related field preferred.Current valid California Driver's License in good standing.SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGEWildlife behaviorWildlife biology and zoologyCare, feeding and handling of wild wildlifeSafety practices around wild wildlifePublic SpeakingDeal tactfully and courteously with othersAdhere to the organization’s policies, procedures and regulationsCompetently perform the essential functions outlined aboveSOME OF THE PERKS YOU WILL ENJOY AS A TEAM MEMBERFree admission to the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari ParkFamily PassesComplimentary TicketsLocal and In-House DiscountsEmployee Assistance ProgramWellness ProgramIMPORTANT DETAILSPosition Type: Hourly Part-Time Non-Exempt Union Position - If selected, there will be fees and dues to be paid to the unionHourly Rate: $25.09Be an ally for wildlife by joining our team!At San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, we thrive on celebrating our differences.
