Momnt is a fast-growing startup fintech company headquartered in Atlanta, GA with team members remote throughout the country. We are looking for a Merchant Risk Underwriter to assess financial risk related to credit, fraud and identity associated with the merchants.In this position you will be responsible for ensuring that Merchant applicants meet verification requirements and program guidelines. You will need to have meticulous attention to detail, great investigation skills and work according to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Location:
This position is located in Atlanta, GA. The team operates in a hybrid model with at least one day per week in our Atlanta Headquarters. Relocation is not available at this time.Must be authorized to work in the U.S./Sponsorships are not available. Corp to Corp is not available.As a Merchant Risk Underwriter, you will:
Analyze application information and third-party responses to render an underwriting decision on merchant applications.Review merchant files in accordance with policy and procedure.Contact merchants as necessary to verify application presented.Maintain records of all investigations performed.Conduct due diligence reviews of applications, ensuring accuracy and completeness.Validate documents provided with new applications using online publications and resources.Manage your hold queue and request documents when necessary.Stay current with sponsor bank requirements and risk trends.Review incoming merchant applications in accordance with Internal Compliance and Underwriting Policies.Evaluate policies with regards to the company’s underwriting standards.Provide policy recommendations - provide documentation to present to upper management spotting a trend in the underwriting that is suspicious.Make a decision to accept, modify or reject a merchant application after scrutiny of all the required documents and studies regarding the risk involved.Provide support and coaching to the underwriting team.Prepare risk assessments and make considered recommendations to Manager via full documentation of suspicious activity and reasons behind recommendation.You’d be a good fit if:
5+ years of experience in a merchant underwriting environment or analyzing financial data.Proficiency with business verification and risk assessment tool Lexis Nexis.Experience mentoring/providing guidance to junior underwriters.Solid understanding of evaluating merchant financial risk based on 3rd party data, credit reports, and other merchant attributes.Ability to understand and make recommendations for changes to Underwriting management and Risk management in a dynamic fast paced environment.Good communication skills, both written and verbal.Sound judgment, strong problem solving and analytical skills.High motivation and attention to detail.Resourceful person that can take ownership of actions and initiative.Nice-to-haves:
Experience with Socure, LexisNexis or similar products.Fraud/ Risk Management experience or deep understanding of fraud prevention techniques.Fintech experience.
