We are an evidence-based practice, which means we do what works, stay up to date with scientific research, and regularly attend international training to keep us at our very best.The Purpose of Your RoleThe billing specialist is responsible for assisting billing operations. They are responsible for enforcing policies and procedures and streamlining effective billing processes across multiple disciplines. The billing specialist performs all billing transactions and assists in the billing and collection operations to ensure accurate and timely submission of claims, payments, prompt collections, and aggressive denial management. They resolve complex billing issues and initiate innovative billing functions. This is a remote position.Success Indicators/KPI’sA/R greater than 90 days 12% or lessClaims exception rate of less than 2.5%Bad debt less than 1.5% of annual incomeAbility to audit, identify and resolve process inefficienciesAbility to lead and motivate a teamDemonstrate in-depth knowledge of medical billing practicesBe organized and results drivenResponsibilitiesOversees the day-to-day operations of the Billing DepartmentDesigns strategy for the department and sets goals for growthCompletes all Train the Trainer coaching and responsibilitiesTrains new employees and coaches and develops existing employeesManages performance problems and terminationsSupports problem resolution and decision-makingAudits the team for accuracy, efficiency, and effectivenessManages and approves timecards, paid time off, and sick timeTrains new and current billers, ensuring smooth workflowMaintains a thorough knowledge of all the payer contracts and ensures contract billing is timely and appropriateMaintains balance with the general ledger and budgetTracks, submits, appeals, and resolves denied claims, and analyzes reimbursements according to contractual agreementsPerforms a variety of duties, including accounts receivable, customer service, correspondence, and daily reconciliation of activitiesManages unassigned payments and applies them to outstanding balances or submits requests for refundCoordinates benefits and transition between various levels of careLearns and practices de-escalation techniques (may occasionally be exposed to high-stress environments)Adheres to all company policies and proceduresOther duties as assignedThe Skills and Expertise You Have2+ years experience in medical billing - MUST HAVE LIGHTNING STEP EXPERIENCEExpertise in processing claims for insurance companiesDemonstrates leadership and management capabilitiesWorks and communicates effectivelyFamiliarity with medical terminology and medical billing practicesProficient knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and other computer softwareAccurate and efficient electronic data entryMust be punctual and maintain excellent attendanceOrganized, detail-oriented, takes the initiative, and completes job responsibilities independentlyMultitask, problem-solve, interpersonal skills, and strong written and verbal communication skillsThrives in a changing work environment, including inside, outside, and loud noise levelPreferred QualificationsWorking knowledge of EMR softwareDisclaimerTOATC has not designed this job description to contain a comprehensive list of activities, duties, or responsibilities required of the employee.
