ICF is seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated candidate to support clients on a range of energy and climate policy issues that may include energy planning and system modernization to meet clean energy, storage, and electrification goals. The candidate will be well-versed in energy sector planning and understanding of electric sector operations. A successful candidate will be experienced in integrated system and resource planning, utility ratemaking and cost allocation, and federal/state energy policy.
This position may be remote or based in our Reston, VA headquarters office in a hybrid work environment. Successful candidates will support the development of solutions to support the creation of programs. They will be part of a team that builds and maintains relationships with key market actors, reviews and analyzes energy and emissions data, develops marketing material that recognizes market leadership, and collaborates with other team members and clients to develop national, regional, and local strategies to increase participation in energy and decarbonization programs.
What you will be doing
Managing and supporting technical studies that evaluate energy impacts and benefits
Preparing, reviewing, updating, and presenting technical reports
Providing project support including technical assistance, analyzing scientific data, and quality-controlling work products and client deliverables
Perform quantitative problem-solving, perform data collection and analysis, and manage large datasets
Write reports for technical and general audiences
Review literature, conduct research, and synthesize findings into concise and well-written summaries
Interact with clients
Prepare presentations, reports, memoranda, and other communication materials
Translate technical topics into terms that are meaningful to more general audiences
Work with small teams to prepare high-quality products, pitching in wherever necessary
Complete tasks in fast-paced and self-motivated environment in a timely and efficient manner
What you need to have
8+ years of relevant experience in the electricity, natural gas industries
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics, public policy, or a related field
Preferred Skills/Experience
Master’s degree in economics, public policy, or a related field is preferred
The combination of engineering and economics degrees is beneficial
Experience with project management, business development, and/or client development
Knowledge of federal, state, and local policies/regulation affecting the energy sector is preferred
Experience with advanced programming and data analytics
In-depth understanding of energy commodity markets, utility regulation, and economic valuation
Understanding of power and natural gas utility sector planning methods
Knowledge of existing and emerging technologies impacting the power and natural gas sectors
Understanding of energy demand drivers
Strong quantitative and analytical skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Highly developed interpersonal skills and self-motivation
Capable of effectively communicating technical material to a lay audience
Proficient computer skills (e.g., the suite of Microsoft applications)
Ability to prioritize and multi-task, and work under strict deadlines

Pay Range
- There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is: $96,367.00 - $163,825.00 Reston, VA (VA30)
