Posting SummaryRutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Visiting Researcher for the Child Health Institute of NJ at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Under the direction of Dr. Zhiping Pang (Principal Investigator) the Visiting Researcher(s) will be responsible for molecular cloning, cell culture, confocal imaging, and data analysis. The applicant(s) should have a solid background in neuroscience and/or cell biology and be able to perform molecular, cellular, and imaging experiments. Applicant(s) must be able to conduct independent experiments and prepare written and oral reports. Qualified candidate(s) should be a recent graduate; bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in biology, medicine or biomedicine preferred. Majored in biomedicine and/or biology is preferred. Prior experience with biomedical research (either basic or clinical research). Candidate(s) with a history of prior publications required.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

Design, perform and analyze experiments focused on mammalian cell culture including isolation and expansion of cells from both murine and human tissues; perform cell survival assays; and transfection of mammalian cells.

Assist in maintaining laboratory instrumentation such as centrifuges, electrophoresis, and confocal microscopes.

Assist in the establishment of performance standards, the selection of research methodologies and instrumentation, and coordination of experimental approaches in support of CHI research.

Keep up to date on the relevant literature in both peer-reviewed and preprint form and assist the PI in preparation of manuscripts and grant applications relevant to own experimental work.

Assist in the instruction and training of students (undergraduate/graduate) in techniques and procedures of the laboratory.

Keeps clear and detailed records of procedures and experiments in accordance with laboratory guidelines, maintain data in shared and readily accessible locations. Communicate and present data to the PI and other lab members in a timely manner.

Position Salary: Salary Range $41K - $47K; based on experience

Minimum Education and Experience

Qualified candidate(s) should be a recent graduate; bachelor’s degree.

Majored in Medicine, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or relevant biological sciences.

Prior experience with basic or clinical research.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Training in basic experimental techniques, including histology, rodent brain dissection, stereotaxic surgeries for intracerebroventricular injections, and fluorescent microscopy.

Must have effective oral and written communication skills; and ability to understand and communicate in English to sufficiently perform the job duties.

Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Must have the ability to work collaboratively and independently.

Must be highly motivated, self-driven, creative, and interactive.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in biology or biomedicine.

Experience with animal behavioral techniques.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Must be able to work in a laboratory environment.

Must be able to perform laboratory research.

Exposure: laboratory environment, moderate noise, and hazardous chemicals.

Some lifting may be required: laboratory items and/or boxes.

Walking, standing, sitting is required.

Must pass employee health clearance, TB Test and required laboratory safety training. Must follow all safety precautions in laboratory, as required.
