As part of the College of Engineering’s Office of Academic Affairs and reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Faculty, you will lead a dedicated team, refine award nomination strategies, and directly contribute to the College’s mission of elevating faculty accomplishments and advancing a culture of recognition. As the Director, you will leverage your exceptional writing and communication skills to craft compelling nomination packages, mentor a talented team, and develop innovative recognition strategies. This role is perfect for a creative, curious and detail-oriented professional with a passion for elevating academic excellence through an impactful recognition program.
What You'll Be Doing
Lead a High-Impact Team : Manage and mentor the External Recognition Program staff, guiding the development of award nomination processes that set faculty up for success.
Strategic Collaboration : Partner with College leadership and faculty to identify recognition opportunities and develop tailored plans for award nominations.
Innovative Program Management : Oversee the collection and dissemination of award opportunities, ensuring the College stays ahead of changes in nomination criteria and processes.
Data-Driven Decision Making : Utilize data sources to evaluate program impact, benchmark against peer institutions, and refine strategies for maximum effectiveness.
Writing Excellence : Write, edit, and polish nomination materials that showcase faculty achievements in compelling, strategic ways for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Relationship Building : Maintain strong connections with external awarding organizations to stay current on nomination requirements and best practices.
Program Evaluation and Improvement : Develop and implement evaluation plans, using insights to drive continuous improvements in recognition strategies.
Building Capacity : Empower school administrative staff to effectively coordinate and manage faculty nomination processes for prestigious external awards, ensuring a seamless and strategic approach to supporting faculty recognition efforts.

What We're Looking For:Required:
Education : Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, science, engineering, or a related field
Leadership Experience : Minimum six years in strategic or operational roles involving university faculty, industry, or non-profits, with a focus on influencing high-impact outcomes
Writing and Communication : Extensive writing and editing experience with a strong portfolio showcasing your ability to communicate effectively with both scientific and lay audiences
Proposal Development : Success in writing persuasive grant proposals or similar strategic documents that have led to recognition or funding
Program Evaluation and Improvement : Proven skills in evaluating, refining, and driving results in strategic programs or initiatives
Team Leadership : Demonstrated supervisory skills, including performance management and mentoring of staff to achieve high standards
Interpersonal Skills : Strong relationship-building capabilities with experience working with faculty and senior administrators
Organizational Skills : Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with a focus on customer service and efficiency
Diplomacy and Problem Solving : Skilled in navigating complex issues with strategic thinking and discretion
Technical Skills : Proficiency in standard business software and data tools to support program management
Preferred:
Advanced Degree : Master’s degree in a relevant field
Experience in Higher Education : Six or more years within higher education, particularly in research-intensive or engineering settings
STEM Background : Knowledge in science, engineering, or technology fields, enhancing your ability to support and elevate faculty recognition efforts
Awards Program Management : Experience managing prestigious awards programs, contributing to faculty achievements at a high level
