The

Department of Facility Maintenance

is looking for a

Safety Specialist II

to help plan and implement the department's industrial safety program, drug and alcohol testing, and civil defense coordination.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Industrial SafetyDevelop and manage accident prevention and safety programs, including confined space safety.Serve as the Safety Officer, chairing safety committee meetings and overseeing compliance.Conduct site inspections and address unsafe conditions, ensuring adherence to HIOSH/OSHA regulations.Respond to major accidents, guide investigations, and recommend improvements.Coordinate safety training on OSHA/HIOSH regulations and recurring safety issues.Manage employee placement for modified duty post-injury.Regularly update PPE requirements and ensure compliance with safety reports.

Drug and Alcohol Testing CoordinationOversee all drug and alcohol testing for the department, including Pre-employment, Probationary, Post-Accident, Random, Reasonable Suspicion, Return to Work, and Follow-Up testing, in compliance with federal DOT CDL and Non-CDL regulations.Maintain accurate employee testing records for CDL and Non-CDL testing.Schedule CDL testing, manage the program through division coordinators, and approve invoices from contractors for testing services.Ensure a supply of testing forms and respond to inquiries, providing necessary documentation to HR Specialists.

Emergency Operations CoordinationWork with management and emergency response agencies to provide employee training (ICS 100 & 700).Oversees and updates the department’s emergency plans to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal regulations.Responds to emergencies, maintains an updated roster of disaster response personnel.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

:Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field.Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

:Three years of experience in industrial safety and accident prevention activities.

Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of: industrial accident hazards and methods of correction and prevention; industrial safety devices and equipment; safety education and publicity media, principles, methods, and practices; and safety inspection principles, practices, and procedures. Such experience must also have demonstrated: the ability to plan, execute, and coordinate an effective safety and accident prevention program; and instruct others in safety techniques, causes of accidents, and accident prevention.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT

:Possession of a valid appropriate driver's license (automobile/Type 3), prior to appointment.
