Job SummaryReporting to the Vice President of Public Policy, the Director of Government Relations – North Dakota will serve as the primary liaison between the organization and government officials, advocating for sound health care policy and advancing Essentia Health’s strategic priorities. This new role will involve monitoring legislative developments, contributing to government relations strategies to increase Essentia Health’s influence on the local, state, and engaging external stakeholders. This role will include delivering influential messaging and updates to drive policy engagement and inform internal decision-making. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in shaping and communicating Essentia Health’s public policy priorities, ensuring alignment with system and market strategic goals, and commitment to its mission of making a healthy difference in people's lives.
Key Responsibilities
Represent Essentia Health to elected officials and staff, attend legislative committee hearings, provide input and connect leadership to advocacy opportunities.
Assist in the development and execution of a government relations strategy that increases Essentia Health’s influence on the local, state, and federal levels and advances its strategic priorities.
Monitor legislative and regulatory action on matters of interest and impact to Essentia.
Build and support relationships with external trade and industry associations, NGOs, public policy experts, thought leaders, and other health care stakeholders.
Deliver clear, concise, and impactful messaging across a variety of channels to drive awareness, interest, engagement, and movement on Essentia’s policy priorities. This includes providing weekly written public policy updates.
Assist with ensuring that Essentia’s public policy positions inform the decisions of internal business leaders where necessary.
Manage and support organizational advocacy efforts and campaigns, including tours and events at Essentia facilities to connect elected officials, staff, and key policymakers to Essentia’s strategic priorities.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Must demonstrate:
Ability to analyze public policy issues from all points of view and remain nonpartisan.
Ability to plan, organize, and implement political strategies.
Deep knowledge of the legislative, regulatory, and political processes in North Dakota and Minnesota.
Strong public speaking, writing, and research skills.
Strong interpersonal skills to work with business partners and cross-functional teams.
Ability to work independently, multitask, meet deadlines, and be part of a team working towards a common goal.
Proven track record as a collaborator and self-starter who exercises discretion and independent judgment.
Must be willing to register and be eligible to be licensed as a lobbyist in the State of North Dakota.
Position LocationThis position may be remote, but frequent attendance in Bismarck during legislative session will be required. Must be able to travel throughout Essentia Health’s service area in North Dakota and Minnesota.
Position CompensationThe salary range for this position is between $150,000 and $210,000. Compensation is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience and skills.
Licensure/Certification Qualifications:No certification/licensure required.
