The historic Radisson Hotel Duluth=Harborview is now accepting resumes for a Director of Sales and Marketing. This is a full time position that Deals with coordination both group hotel rooms, meetings and special events at the hotel.
The qualified candidate must have a background in hotel sales, an outgoing personality, as well as be a team player in dealing and working with all department heads of the hotel. Dealing with sales of hotel rooms as to groups promoting the hotel and all of our outlets such as The Apostle Supper Club, The False Eye Doll lounge. Computer skills a must.
Responsible for the short and long-term planning and day-to-day operations of the hotel Sales department. Recommend the marketing, advertising, sales plans and programs, annual budget; and manage within approved plans and budgets.
Qualify prospective leads as to profitability.
Approve function space allocation for group and catering bookings.
Negotiate and close contracts with key accounts.
Manage Human Resources in the department in order to attract, retain and motivate associates; recommends hiring, training, development; empower, coach and counsel; conduct performance and salary reviews; resolve problems; provide open communication vehicles; discipline and recommend termination, as appropriate.
Implement company programs (Hotel/Franchise) and manage the operations of the department in a manner consistent with Hotel policies and procedures; prepare, analyze and review forecasts, statements and reports, to determine if the plans and programs are producing optimal revenue.
Develop and continually enhance relationships with corporate, business, travel industry, community organizations, professional associations, and media, current and potential clients, etc., to maintain and increase awareness of the hotel and our market share.
Survey, review and analyze competition, market trends, customer needs and comments, in order to develop new plans and programs; and determine the potency of current plans and programs.
Develop, recommend, implement and manage the department’s annual budget, advertising, public relations, marketing, sales plans and programs, for the property to maximize rate, occupancy, and food & beverage opportunities, thus ensuring the hotel meets/exceeds management and owner revenue/profit goals and expectations.
Train all members of the hotel staff on how to recognize and capitalize on all sales opportunities to increase hotel occupancy and revenue.
Complete special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
Participate in task force and committees as required.
Conduct property tours.
Conduct inventory Sales collateral.

Requires studying, analyzing and interpreting complex activities or information in order to improve new practices or develop new approaches.
Must possess highly developed communication skills to frequently negotiate, convince, sell and influence other managerial associates, hotel guests and/or corporate clients.
Must understand the positioning of the hotel, services provided, and how the hotel can meet the needs of guests, and must be capable of closing business transactions.
Must understand the cost/benefits of prospective business and vendor contracts and negotiate contracts, which results in mutually beneficial outcomes.
Must understand the strategic positioning of the hotel and how the products and services offered compare within the competitive market for targeted market segments.
Must be able to prepare revenue forecasts for department based on business booked-to-date, current and historical booking pace, and impact of special promotions.
Must have the ability to develop and guide others in professional growth and performance enhancement through assuring clarity of goals, employing reflective listening skills, and facilitating the generation of options and action planning.
Some travel may be required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Four-year college degree or equivalent education/experience.
Five years within the hotel sales discipline and department head position for at least two years.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
English is a must and other languages are a plus.
