8 Hr (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)Summary:The Intellectual Property Specialist – Technology Manager will be responsible for managing the entire life cycle of inventions and technologies arising from Rush University research. You will lead and manage the identification, protection, marketing, licensing, and management of intellectual property (e.g., patents, copyrights). The position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.Responsibilities:Develops and maintains effective relationships with constituents inside and outside of Rush University Medical Center.Evaluates patentability and potential markets for technologies, inventions, processes, and therapies.Assists in the management of patent prosecution.Markets discoveries to potential licensee companies, entrepreneurs, and investors.Develops licensing strategies, drafts, reviews, and negotiates Inter-Institutional Agreements, Options, and Licenses.Trains and mentors licensing and support staff as needed.Reviews and interprets policy, state law, and federal regulations.Provides timely, accurate, and relevant reporting to the Innovation and Research Counsel.Collaborates with Office of Research Affairs (ORA) for various aspects of intellectual property management.Manages creation to fulfillment patent process of Rush University Medical Center (RUMC) technologies.Other relevant duties as assigned.Required Job Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in life sciences or related field.Two years' experience in technology transfer at an institution of higher education/non-profit organization. Advanced degree and research experience may be considered in lieu of technology transfer experience.Deep understanding of early stage technology evaluation, intellectual property management, licensing process, and corresponding types of legal agreements.Experience of building and managing faculty as well as industry relationships.Knowledge of life sciences, laws and regulations related to intellectual property licensing, and fundamental business principles.Preferred Job Qualifications:Advanced degree in life sciences or an MBA.Rush is an equal opportunity employer.
