The Director of Individual Giving works closely with the Director of Development to develop and implement the overall strategy for OSF’s annual fund and major gifts solicitation and stewardship, with the expectation of securing $12M - $15M annually for OSF operations and special projects.The Director works collaboratively with colleagues across OSF and supervises a team of six.Organizational BackgroundThe Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) was founded in 1935 in Ashland, OR, and has grown from a three-day festival of two plays to a nationally renowned theatre arts organization that presents a rotating repertory season of up to 10 plays and musicals, including illuminating interpretations of Shakespeare, other enduring classics, and new works. OSF productions have been presented on Broadway, internationally, and at regional, community, and high school theatres across the country. OSF received the 1983 Special Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre and is one of the largest nonprofit theatres in the nation with three stages, including an outdoor Allen Elizabethan Theatre.Statement of PurposeThe Oregon Shakespeare Festival creates world-class theatre, revealing our collective humanity through illuminating interpretations of new and classic plays, and inspiring a love of our art form for current and future generations.Company ValuesWe are committed to working toward inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility, creating a space of belonging for all audiences and employees—through concrete actions and systemic improvements.We nurture and support our artists, attracting and retaining diverse, innovative talent across the organization.We believe in the transformational power of collaborative artmaking and performance.We recognize the importance of responsible stewardship of resources and sustainable business, financial, and environmental practices.We serve the public good and engage with and respect our community of artists, audiences, staff, local citizens, patrons, donors, and the greater theatre community worldwide.Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):Attends Inclusion, Equity, Diversity, and Access (IDEA) sexual harassment, and any other anti-bias training and workshops as scheduled by the institution.Models and supports the mission and values of OSF by:Demonstrating inclusive behavior.Maintaining a safe working environment free from any aggressions.Recognizing micro-aggressions and interrupting behaviors that hinder OSF’s diversity and inclusion efforts.Works closely with the Development Director to create comprehensive annual fundraising plans that engage both new and existing individual donors.Implements plans through research, writing, personal contacts, and the activation and coordination of OSF senior leadership (Artistic Director, Executive Director, Director of Development, board members, others as appropriate) in the cultivation and solicitation of individual donors.Identifies prospects and develops relationships with new and current donors. Personally stewards an assigned portfolio of prospects and major donors.Leads the Major Gifts team in coordinating portfolios: assigns prospects, guides overall strategy, and supports the team in identifying cultivation and solicitation opportunities and closing gifts.Oversees the strategy and implementation of OSF’s Annual Fund appeal. Guides the Annual Fund team’s direct mail, phone, and email solicitation and stewardship campaigns.Oversees fundraising and planning for OSF’s Annual Gala (a combined digital and in-person program) and other fundraising events.Works directly with Artistic Director, Executive Director, other senior staff, and multiple OSF departments (including Marketing and Box Office) to develop effective, brand-aligned development messaging.Monitors progress to individual giving goals and reports regularly to the Director of Development and senior leadership.Works closely with the Board of Directors to support board-level fundraising, in partnership with the Director of Development.Devises and recommends strategies for achieving long-term fundraising goals, including capital projects, in conjunction with OSF leadership.Other Duties and Responsibilities:Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Development.RequirementsEducation:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience. Master’s degree preferred.Work Experience:
7-10 years of fundraising experience, preferably in non-profit institutions.Qualifications/skills:
Thorough understanding of and successful track record in managing and mentoring employees to success. Knowledge of regional and national philanthropic community; leadership qualities, ability to inspire and motivate others, strong work ethic; high energy, positive attitude, flexibility, teamwork and attention to detail; ability to work collaboratively, listen well and draw the best from colleagues and employees; strong project management skills; good computer skills and knowledge of fundraising database programs (knowledge of Tessitura is a plus); ability to relate effectively with a diverse range of people; skill in fostering innovation, ability to see new opportunities and position the theatre to exploit opportunities to increase contributed income; passion for the art form.Physical Ability:
