The Department of Psychiatry seeks applicants for an Assistant Scientist position to conduct research on neural and behavioral mechanisms of cognition and motivated behavior in the context of models of psychiatric and neurological conditions. The position requires the candidate to work independently as a scientist while also collaborating with students, post-doctoral fellows, and other faculty at the University of Florida and beyond. We are seeking a scientist with skills in a broad range of behavioral neuroscience techniques, as well as experience with coding and computational analysis of large datasets, statistics, and experimental design.Duties include:

Conducting behavioral neuroscience experiments in rats, including operant behavioral testing, optogenetic, and fiber photometryDesign and implementation of experimentsAnalysis of in vivo fiber photometry datasetsOral presentation of research resultsWriting manuscripts and grant proposalsMinimum Requirements:

A doctoral degree and a minimum of 4 years of experience in behavioral neuroscience research or a closely-related fieldExperience with coding and statisticsExperience with writing peer-reviewed manuscripts and grant applicationsStrong oral and written communication skillsInterest in and experience with a collaborative, multi-disciplinary research environmentPreferred Qualifications:

Experience with mentoring undergraduate and graduate studentsExperience with operant behavioral testing in rodents, as well as optogenetic and fiber photometryStrong quantitative and computational skillsExperience with rodent models of aging, neurodegenerative disease, and/or psychiatric disordersCompensation and Benefits
