Emmanuel Reformed Episcopal Church (EREC) seeks a full-time Rector/Pastor who is a committed leader, preacher and teacher who maintains a pattern of life that sets a wholesome Christian example. The Pastor will conduct regular services for Divine Worship and administer the holy sacraments, so that the congregation is given opportunity for spiritual growth and response to Christ. Our current Pastor has served us for 16 years and is retiring.
The Pastor should be comfortable with a liturgical service, within the Anglican tradition, without high church tendencies. The Pastor should believe the Holy Bible alone in its entirety to be the inerrant word of God, and he should have knowledge of the Holy Bible commensurate to meeting the requirements of an accredited theological seminary and the Reformed Episcopal Church. The Pastor must have a high degree of social affability and awareness. We are seeking a Pastor who is enthusiastic for the Lord’s work, including community outreach, missions, youth ministry, and visitation with congregants. The Pastor will provide for pastoral care of the parishioners, ensuring that individual and family joys, anxieties, and distresses are met with Christian concern. The Pastor should in every way seek to strengthen the spiritual life of congregants, and to advance Christ’s Kingdom through the Reformed Episcopal Church.
Additional responsibilities include leading a Christian education program which includes Sunday School and Bible Study so that individuals of all ages will learn the content of the Faith and its application to daily living. The Pastor should encourage spiritual growth in the congregation through study, prayer, service, giving and fellowship so parishioners know and share Christ. Emmanuel Church is looking for a Pastor who will strengthen, support and encourage the work of the evangelism and outreach ministry to reach individuals with the Gospel message and grow the congregation. The Pastor should be willing to participate in community, regional, and diocesan activities, so that the congregation’s mission beyond itself is furthered.
Emmanuel Church is located in Somerville, NJ, adjacent to RWJ University Hospital Somerset as well as the RWJ Steeplechase Cancer Center, and is 40 miles from Manhattan. The fully-owned church property is a 6,300 square foot building on 0.7506 acres. The sanctuary was renovated in 2021 and has a maximum seating capacity of 100. The church building includes a fellowship hall, two childcare rooms, 3 classrooms, two administrative offices, a parlor, and a full kitchen.
We currently have 40 members with an average Sunday attendance of 25. Most are long-time members, and are middle age or older. We are currently offering a compensation package which includes a rectory in Somerville located one mile from the church.
