Covia is looking for a dynamic
Senior Geologist
who will have a positive impact on the
Mine Planning and Geology
team at its
Ottawa, IL or homebased
location. This position will conduct and manage field geological projects in support of the company's mining facilities in a cost-effective manner, complete numeric geologic models and written reserve evaluations, and participate in acquisition studies as requested.
The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:
Utilize geological expertise to conduct the required field work and complete the reports pertaining to geological reserve evaluations on COVIA lands, with all due attention given to addressing the important quality and physical parameters.
Log and sample, as necessary, all drill holes associated with these projects in a detailed, conscientious, professional manner; and ensure that the samples are delivered safely to the laboratory.
Evaluate the reserve potential of the assigned projects by application of all available computer software, including MineSight, Vulcan, or Leap Frog and through application of sound geological science procedures.
Conduct quality determinations of the company's deposits as required by means of our petrographic and binocular microscopes.
Function as COVIA's Qualified Person at assigned plants in terms of completion of the annual reserve statements and maintain proper documentation to support the tonnages reported for each property.
Participate in special task forces as required, providing geological interpretation and expertise in plant expansion or reserve acquisition studies.
Complete all required reports including drilling project status updates and annual geology plant reports in a timely manner, being diligent in the proper use of the English language.
Utilize available resources to complete or to assist in the completion of hydrology investigations and environmental studies as requested.
Initiate geological research studies at the plants to address ore-related quality control issues as requested by the Director MPG.
Work independently, particularly in cases where the supervisor is not located at the same office.
Travel extensively.
Perform other duties as assigned.
The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:
Ten years' experience in a Geology role required
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Geology required
Master's degree in Geology preferred
Must possess strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills
Experience working with AutoCAD, Hexagon Mine Sight or Vulcan is a plus
