Kamehameha Schools is looking for a creative and team-focused senior specialist with exceptional writing skills and a commitment to deep understanding of Hawaiian culture, language, history, traditions and values. As part of a team with a passion for storytelling, you will guide the voice of the organization across various communication channels, and you will play a critical role in creating impactful content and executing communications strategies that resonate with our community and advance our mission.
Job Summary:
Supports the enterprise communications team’s central role to shape and uphold Kamehameha Schools’ image, reputation and relationships with its many stakeholder groups, internally and externally. Contributes to the team’s ability to generate impact, influencing public perception, stakeholder relationships and organizational success. Leads development of communications and marketing plans in alignment with broader organizational strategies. Actively develops and fosters relationships and collaboration with key partners and stakeholders. Serves as lead for channel strategy and performance. Ensures creation and delivery of compelling multimedia content to reinforce and invigorate Hawaiian cultural and language vibrancy while strengthening engagement around Kamehameha Schools’ goal of nurturing ʻōiwi leaders.
Essential Responsibilities:
Communications and Marketing Strategy:
Collaborates with Communications leadership to identify innovative communications solutions based on thorough assessments and trends analysis.
Leads the development and implementation of communications and marketing plans comprised of paid, earned and owned media strategies to meet corporate or project goals.
Assists with development of strategic messaging to reinforce KS values and build support for the organization.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Builds and maintains strategic partnerships with media partners, consultants and external stakeholders to enhance KS reputation and advance organizational initiatives.
Builds and maintains relationships with internal stakeholders and collaborates cross-functionally to increase trust and drive organization-wide alignment and effectiveness.
Multimedia Content Strategy and Channel Lead:
Serves as a channel lead and may direct the work of internal staff in optimizing communications channels for increased engagement and impact.
Leads development of campaign materials including written stories, multimedia products, print collateral, traditional and digital advertising and social media content, ensuring consistency and alignment with KS brand.
Provides mentorship and guidance to junior team members to foster knowledge-sharing and skill development as directed by supervisor.
Uses analytics for insights to inform channel optimization.
External Coordination and Management:
Manages third-party vendor contracts and internal resources in support of communications and marketing strategy and base operations.
Works in collaboration with manager to create and oversee project budgets. Works closely with internal counsel to ensure KS products and engagement on digital platforms adheres to applicable laws, regulations and KS policies.
Technology Integration, Delivery and Engagement:
Creates and codes effective messages for communications, marketing and multimedia platforms, such as Salesforce and Canva.
Applies expertise in understanding various digital content delivery platforms to publish content for consumption by target audiences.
Monitors trends and emerging technologies to ensure effective use of social media and cloud-based communications platforms.
Position Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, advertising or related field.
Minimum 5-7 years of experience in communications, marketing, advertising or related field with a diverse portfolio of work and demonstrated expertise in at least two of the following: writing for publication, media relations/PR, ad buying, email marketing, social media management.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with proven ability to transform information into clear messages and compelling stories that accurately reflect KS values, identity and positions.
Ability to develop messages embodying the voice of organizational leaders, including KS’ Chief Executive Officer.
Highly skilled in producing and publishing content via a range of communications channels.
Experience in use of a wide range of communications channels to effectively and efficiently target key audiences.
Knowledge of Hawaiʻi news media landscape.
Experience in use of social media for communications and marketing.
Working knowledge of the creative process, design and production.
Technical expertise including interface navigation, user administration, data management, system customization, graphic design skills and image editing for use of digital platforms such as Canva, Salesforce, Staffbase, etc.
Ability to use analytics to inform content and channel strategy.
Ability to use team collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, Slack, etc.
Ability to manage project budgets and service contracts.
Commitment to excellence with a high degree of accountability and proven ability to meet deadlines.
Highly developed interpersonal skills, ability to foster relationships and collaborate effectively.
Strong organizational skills, with ability to prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Strong analytical skills, negotiation and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with Kamehameha Schools’ mission, vision and lines of business. Knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Hawaiian history, culture and worldview as it relates to the operations of Kamehameha Schools as a Native Hawaiian organization.
Familiarity with the Hawaiian community and with issues of relevance to Kamehameha Schools as a Native Hawaiian organization.
Working relationships with potential individual contributors and partner entities.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation.
Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions:
This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but may be conducted in evenings and weekends, as necessary.
