Role Overview:

Focus on establishing and optimizing our data warehouse and data lake environments. This role will be critical in integrating various machine learning and data science tools, as well as placing controls on the warehouses and lakes we help stand up. You will utilize technologies such as Apache Spark, Airflow, Iceberg, and AWS streaming services, leading a team in designing and implementing a robust data architecture that supports our data office and enhances data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Warehouse & Lake Setup: Lead the design and implementation of data warehouse and data lake architectures, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and aligned with organizational goals.

Integration Technologies: Oversee the integration of various technologies (e.g., Apache Spark, Airflow, Iceberg) and AWS streaming tools (e.g., Kinesis, MSK) to enable efficient data processing and workflow orchestration.

Controls Implementation: Help establish and enforce controls on data warehouses and lakes to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance.

Collaboration: Partner with data scientists and analysts to understand their needs and drive the integration of machine learning tools and frameworks into the data architecture.

Data Governance: Implement best practices for data governance and management within the data warehouse and lake environments.

Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize data architecture performance, focusing on query efficiency, data retrieval times, and overall system reliability.

Technical Leadership: Provide mentorship and guidance to the engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.

Emerging Technologies: Stay updated on advancements in data technologies and tools, continuously evaluating and integrating new solutions that enhance our capabilities.

Documentation & Standards: Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for data infrastructure processes, standards, and best practices to support knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications:

8+ years of experience in data engineering, cloud engineering, or related roles.

5+ years of hands-on experience with data warehouse and data lake design and implementation.

Proficiency in data integration technologies, including Apache Spark, Airflow, Iceberg, and AWS streaming tools (e.g., Kinesis, MSK).

Familiarity with data warehouses and lakes across various cloud tenants (AWS is a must, GCP and Azure nice to have).

Strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance principles.

Experience integrating machine learning and data science tools within cloud environments.

Strong leadership and communication skills, capable of conveying technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.

Proven adaptability and resilience in a dynamic organizational environment.

Desired Qualifications:

Familiarity with big data technologies and frameworks.

Experience with ETL processes and data pipeline development.

Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their data services.

Certifications in cloud architecture or data engineering (AWS, Azure, GCP) are a plus.

Industry experience in Defense, Intelligence, or related sectors is highly desirable.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field.

Advanced degrees (Master’s or Ph.D.) in relevant disciplines are a plus.

Security Clearance:

Must be a US Citizen. No clearance required at the time of hiring, but a Secret or higher clearance is preferred or the ability to obtain one.

The salary range for this role is 105,000 USD - 221,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
