McKinsey & Company
Senior Editor, McKinsey Global Institute
McKinsey & Company, Atlanta, Georgia, United States, 30383
Do you want to do work that matters, alongside supportive leaders who will help you grow faster than you ever thought possible? Are you a creative problem-solver who is energized by challenges?
You’ve come to the right place.
Who You'll Work With
You will be part of a small global publishing team that supports McKinsey’s research institutes, including the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), the business and economics research arm of McKinsey & Company. You will work closely with MGI partners and rotational research teams made up of McKinsey consultants. You will help them turn quantitative research findings on economic, business, demographic, and technology trends into compelling, multimedia thought leadership content, including reports, op-eds, and social media posts.
You will also collaborate with other McKinsey research institutes — Institute for Black Economic Mobility (BEM) and McKinsey Health Institute (MHI) — to develop articles and reports highlighting their insights.
Your impact within our firm
You will draft and edit long-form research reports for MGI and for the firm’s other research institutes. You also will manage each project through outlining, drafting, revising, approvals, production, and launch, while meeting tight deadlines. You will work with research teams to build storylines, sharpen messages, and turn quantitative analysis into crisp, digestible writing. You might be managing other editors as part of their and your career development.
You will be incorporating and balancing ideas and feedback from multiple contributors. You will ensure the quality and accuracy of our research while capturing the right tone and voice as well as adhering to quality, risk, and style guidelines. You will need to be a quick study, capable of absorbing new topics, synthesizing information, and capturing MGI’s voice. You will also produce shorter articles for McKinsey outlets and external publications.
You will be ensuring that charts, visuals, and presentations are clear, accurate, and engaging. You will need to have a keen visual sense and the ability to make suggestions and come up with concepts.
You will collaborate with MGI’s digital editor to create social media assets, video scripts and other multimedia content. You will also work with our external communications teams to produce press and outreach materials.
You will engage and inspire colleagues through your thought-partnership and leadership skills to advance MGI’s publishing objectives. You will be expected to clearly communicate with internal and external teams and relevant McKinsey leadership in support of a robust volume of editorial projects. You will be able to independently manage freelance/agency resources related to your own projects.
Please submit: a resume, cover letter, and three writing samples (only business- or economics-related articles, please). Your cover letter should include a succinct (~200 words or fewer) answer to the following question: What do you like about MGI content, and what areas do you think could improve and why? Please be candid and specific.
Your qualifications and skills
Bachelor’s/university degree or equivalent required; advanced degree in economics, business, or journalism a plus
