Location: Chicago, ILJob Description:

Serve as a liaison and conduct visits to the local high schools and academic institutions in the Chicago area, meeting with students, educators, and administrators. Conduct on-campus events at the University of Chicago, Chicago State University, and the University of Illinois in Chicago, where local students from Chicago Public Schools can meet and work with the faculty, students, and administrators of these NSF-QuBBE-QLCI universities.Organize events at the local high schools to provide information to high school students about pursuing college-level educational opportunities in the fields of sciences and technology. Arrange for faculty, educators, university students, and university administrators of the participating NSF-QuBBE-QLCI universities to give lectures, seminars, and conduct workshops at local high schools to assist local high school students. Prepare workshops in which university administrators explain how to seek financial aid for college education.Propose strategies to better reach local high school students and help them succeed in their efforts to gain admission to college. Assist university faculty in preparing grant proposals related to securing funding for workforce development initiatives in the south side and west side of Chicago. Assist with planning and implementing program marketing activities, including the development of publications and websites. Gather and analyze data concerning program performance, and write reports. Monitor program budgets. Review the work of and serve as a resource to program support staff and program instructors. Perform other related work as needed.Preferred Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree with a focus on marketing and business fields of study.Experience:

Previous experience with outreach, specifically with activities related to high school students in the south side of Chicago. Previous experience with coaching or mentoring youths.Certifications:

Valid driver’s license.Technical Knowledge or Skills:

Computer Skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).Preferred Competencies:

Ability to provide a positive representation of the NSF-QuBBE-QLCI organization and the University of Chicago to high school students and their staff.Ability to perform the role of a coach and/or mentor to young students.Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.Ability to remain professional at all times.Ability to interact and work well with university staff, scientists, and faculty.Ability to network and possess an outgoing personality.Interest and enthusiasm for a long-term career in marketing and business in high-tech technologies and advanced sciences.Willingness to learn about new technologies and sciences continuously.Fluency in both English and Spanish.Working Conditions:
