Available shift for this role: Monday through Friday 9:30am to 6:00pm.Facility Cook PositionThe Cook will utilize hands-on cooking skills, knowledge of food production, and daily meal service, with the ability to multi-task food service functions and meal execution on time. Additionally, the Cook ensures safety of food handling practices, freezer pulls, proper sanitation, and utilization of the FIFO method in volunteer and team concept organizations/meal service.Key ResponsibilitiesEnsure meals are well-balanced, nutritious, and appealing.Reduce unnecessary waste and ensure the highest quality and service.Follow production menu with guidance and directives from Chef de Partie.Meal preparation and cooking, as well as execution of meal service.Organize supplies and receive deliveries.Able to communicate and organize volunteers with the facility chef.Food Storage and Safety ResponsibilitiesManage food storage, proper refrigeration dating, and rotation system.Maintain professional safety standards, cleanliness, and sanitation in accordance with health department codes.Maintain a clean kitchen and surrounding operations.Notify supervisor of equipment needs.Treatment Setting ResponsibilitiesEnsure that all kitchen volunteer workers are familiar with safe food handling.Communicate departmental policies and procedures to volunteers regarding safe food-service operations and sanitation.Must maintain professional guidance and role model status.Maintain team spirit and morale within the kitchen.Work as a team with Food Services and perform functions that further Department and Agency needs.Other duties as assigned.Education and Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities3 or more years of experience with back-of-the-house hands-on cooking skills.Preferred: Culinary school or culinary training.Must have a sensitive level of compassion for challenged populations and troubleshoot special diet needs on demand.Valid CA Driver's license - driving between facilities is a responsibility of this role.In compliance with the California Department of Public Health's mandate, all employees must be able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Medical and religious exemptions are available.We will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
