The Arapahoe County Attorney's Office is seeking to fill an Assistant County Attorney I position. The Arapahoe County Attorney’s Office is a full service in-house public law firm that represents and advises the County and its elected officials, departments and employees on a wide spectrum of legal matters.

This position will be responsible for handling zoning and building code enforcement cases in state court, and for assisting with other litigation matters and legal issues as needed.

The person selected to fill this position will work with and learn from a collaborative and friendly team of local government attorneys with substantial expertise in their fields, and have an opportunity to make a positive difference for the residents of the County.

An Assistant County Attorney I represents the Board of County Commissioners, other county elected officials, departments and employees on various litigation and non-litigation matters. This job works under the guidelines and direction of the County Attorney and Deputy County Attorney.

Assistant County Attorney I Salary Range - $80,200.12 - $128,111.10Please note, these are the salary ranges for 2024. If a hire is not made until 2025, the salary rates may change.

The salary range shown at the header of this posting is the minimum and maximum salary for Assistant County Attorney I. Most hires have a starting salary between the minimum and midpoint of the grade being hired to. Applicable experience and education will be considered by the County Attorney and HR when making an offer to an applicant.

Assistant County Attorney I• Represents the County and/or its elected officials, departments and employees in legal proceedings in state and federal court, and in administrative proceedings.• Provides oral and written legal advice to the Board of County Commissioners, its elected officials, departments, employees, and boards.• Drafts regulations, ordinances and resolutions.• Reviews proposed legislation that has a potential impact on the County.• Conducts legal research on various topics.• Independently investigates facts and reviews findings for substantiation.• Attends Board of County Commissioner and other meetings.Skills, Abilities and Competencies:• Knowledge of legal research techniques and ability to effectively and accurately conduct legal research on wide range of topics.• General knowledge of relevant legal principles applicable to local government practice.• Ability to use a personal computer for e-mail, calendaring, word processing and to conduct legal research.• Ability to investigate and process factual information effectively, and to apply legal rules to factual situations accurately.• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.• Ability to work effectively when faced with a high volume of work and multiple deadlines.• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, superiors, elected officials, fellow employees and the general public.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:• Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.
