Job Description :
The New York Post and Page Six provide our audience with the best in News, Sports, Pop Culture and Entertainment – with signature wit, irreverence and authority averaging 100 million unique viewers a month. For the past 223 years, The Post has evolved into a multi-platform media company spanning print, digital, video, audio, app, television and commerce.
The Director, Sports Social Media
will report directly into the Senior Director of Social Media with a dotted line to the Executive Sports Editor.
Responsibilities:
Build and manage a sports social media department for The Best Sports in Town. Develop and build processes for social-first storytelling across platforms to promote engagement and maintain a 24/7 team calendar of coverage.
Optimize sports section content for New York Post Sports social platforms and execute daily posting across Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok and more, ensuring content packing aligns with our brand and guidelines.
Lead a team that dominates breaking sports news, events and trending topics, particularly in the NY metro area, inside and outside of the stadiums and arenas.
Develop and measure sports growth strategies across all social channels coverage, guide sports social team to hit follower growth and engagement targets.
Work alongside the NYP Sports editorial team, sitting with the editors, attending their daily meetings and constantly communicating with the sports staff.
Work closely with sales and marketing departments to execute social media marketing campaigns and identify opportunities to collaborate with brands and influencers.
Maintain proficiency and knowledge in latest social media technologies and best practices (i.e. new tools, algorithm changes, platform enhancements).
Qualifications:
At least 8 years of experience managing social media in a newsroom or for a sports organization.
A deep knowledge of and passion for all things sports with an expertise in local NY sports is a must. Only candidates who eat, sleep and breathe New York sports teams will be considered.
Strong news judgment and excellent writing and copy-editing skills.
Knowledge of digital media trends and emerging platforms.
Proficiency in metrics-based decision making with an emphasis on reading and interpreting data.
Ability to be both a self-starter and team player; strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
Ability to multitask, balance priorities and thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
