Your Role at Baxter
As a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer at Baxter, you will contribute directly to our mission to empower clinicians and health systems with tools to make a difference in patients and clinicians' lives. It's ambitious work—and you're not on your own.
You will play a key role in the full life cycle of products within the Front Line Care business unit. This role bears key responsibility with the Patient Monitoring portfolio as a member of a multi-disciplinary development team for new products. You will understand and define customer needs; product functionality and performance requirements; product architecture, constraints, and trade-offs; and design and interface requirements of new products being developed.
We are looking for someone to lead engineering team members on the overall design of the final product and hold responsibility for all system engineering activities to ensure a safe and effective product.
Your Team
You will be a part of the Patient Monitoring team, which supports both new product development projects and sustainment of currently marketed products. You will work with a cross functional team that consists of other engineering disciplines, operations, and quality assurance. We work together to develop, test, and launch products that improve patient care.
What you'll be doing
Interact with all business and customer partners to understand their problems and needs
Define the needs in a stakeholder needs document which is reviewed and approved by cross functional team members;
Translate customer needs, business constraints, and regulatory requirements into product functional and performance system requirements
Conduct risk management activities including planning, risk analysis, risk evaluation and control.
Lead the engineering team through the development of system architecture options. Objectively and holistically communicate tradeoffs during the architecture selection process
Participate in system and subsystem architecture and design process.
Analyze and propose solutions for product and customer issues.
Decompose and allocate system level requirements into module level requirements.
Plan and look after reliability and robustness activities.
Lead the technical team through technical risk identification and management as well as issue and test defect resolution.
Ensure changes are analyzed holistically and impacts are fully understood.
What you'll bring
Bachelor’s Degree (Mechanical, Electrical, Software Engineering or comparable technical subject area)
10+ years of engineering experience including fundamental understanding of Hardware and Software engineering
Knowledge in ISO 14971 Application of Risk Management to Medical Devices is preferred
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and work collaboratively with others multi-functionally
Ability to work in the absence of complete information and make timely decisions
Strategic problem solver and can execute with excellent attention to detail
Organization & ability to progress on many different tasks in parallel
Ability to plan, estimate and accurately track deliverables
Ability to write clear, concise, and verifiable requirements
Adaptability, open to change and continuously looks for ways to improve and simplify sophisticated work

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. To that end, this position has a base salary range of $120,000 to $165,000 plus an annual incentive bonus, commission target. The above range represents the expected base salary range for this position. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in the role, business line, and geographic/office location.
