Discover Impactful Work:
As a Staff Scientist, Bioinformatics, you will support the development and implementation of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) based oncology assays within the Clinical Sequencing Division. You will leverage your expertise in oncology bioinformatics, Python programming, and Unix/Linux systems to develop and maintain bioinformatics pipelines, analyze complex genomic data, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Your work will directly contribute to advancing precision medicine and improving patient outcomes.
A day in the Life:
Pipeline Development and Maintenance:
Develop, optimize, and maintain bioinformatics pipelines and tools using Python and other relevant scripting languages on Linux-based platforms.
Data Analysis:
Perform data analysis and interpretation of high-throughput sequencing data, including but not limited to DNA, RNA, cell-free total nucleic acid datasets.
Collaboration:
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including laboratory scientists, clinical researchers, regulatory professionals, and software developers, to design and implement bioinformatics solutions that meet project requirements.
Troubleshooting:
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to data processing and analysis, ensuring timely and accurate results.
Quality Control:
Ensure data integrity, quality control, and compliance with regulatory standards throughout the development process.
Documentation:
Document workflows, pipelines, and analysis results in a clear and reproducible manner, adhering to best practices in scientific research.
Continuous Learning:
Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in bioinformatics, genomics, and computational biology, and apply this knowledge to improve existing pipelines and develop new solutions.
Keys to Success:
Education
Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
Experience
At least 5 years of experience in bioinformatics, with a focus on oncology and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
Proven experience in Python programming, bash scripting, Unix/Linux systems, next-generation sequencing analysis, and somatic oncology genomics.
Strong understanding of bioinformatics tools and algorithms, including sequence alignment, variant calling, and functional annotation.
Experience with high-throughput sequencing data analysis (e.g., NGS, RNA-Seq, WGS, etc.).
Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., GitHub).
Experience working in regulated environments and familiarity with regulatory compliance and quality assurance standards.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Outstanding problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent documentation skills, with the ability to write clear and reproducible workflows.
Familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) is a plus.
Knowledge of statistical analysis and machine learning techniques is a plus.
Familiarity with databases and data management systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL) is a plus.

Compensation And Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $113,500.00–$151,300.00.
This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
