Senior Legal Counsel, Enterprise Initiatives

About Team / RoleThe Senior Counsel, Enterprise Initiatives will primarily be responsible for general legal support to WEX’s near and long term strategic objectives, working with stakeholders across the global enterprise to support the execution of those key objectives and also engaging collaboratively with other legal SMEs as well as external advisers such as outside counsel.
How you'll make an impact
Provide general in-house support for legal matters supporting WEX’s strategic objectives both in the near term and long term.
Provide commercial legal support on WEX’s relationships with the card schemes and payment facilitators including advice relating to card scheme rules and other legal and contractual requirements.
Provide legal support generally to the WEX Marketing function, including the review of marketing content, press releases and marketing initiatives.
Provide legal support to the stakeholders responsible for early product development (from inception and throughout the incubation and testing phases).
Negotiate, draft and review a variety of commercial agreements including terms and conditions for the WEX lines of business, with a focus on standardization.
Assist in the selection and implementation of the WEX Contract Lifecycle Management tool including preparation and review of standard documents across all WEX lines of business.
Build and maintain processes consistent with best practice operations of large legal teams, including maintaining and updating standard templates and creating playbooks; and providing guidance for requirements for the development, creation and maintenance of contracting processes, including automated contracts and commercial support systems.
Collaborate with colleagues in other areas of the legal department to identify and provide comprehensive legal guidance.
Where necessary, be responsible for engaging, instructing and managing outside counsel.
Be actively involved with the operations and commercial organizations to develop customer agreements and other commercial contracts.
Experience you'll bring
Education: J.D. required
Experience: 7+ years of legal experience
Experience in financial services and/or transportation industry, ideally in an in-house environment
Significant commercial drafting and negotiating experience, preferably in the payments sector
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Excellence in resourceful problem solving, detailed analysis, and issue resolution
Excellent ability to understand complex commercial and technical issues and business metrics
Effective organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills
Collaborative and can work as part of a team, while also being an independent self-starter
Proactive in pursuit of continuous improvement, learning new skills, and addressing clients’ business needs with practical solutions
Compensation and BenefitsThe base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan. Pay Range: $146,000.00 - $194,000.00
