STAFF ATTORNEY
HEARTLY HOUSE, INC. (“HH”)
The mission of Heartly House is to end domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and child abuse, and to provide victims with safety, shelter, and supportive services.
Our legal services are designed to meet a victim’s need for protection, representation, and advocacy including but not limited to, providing answers on navigating the legal system and representation at protective order hearings and family law cases. Note: this is not a remote position. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Perform legal intakes for clients
requesting legal services; provide brief advice as appropriate. Represent clients seeking protective
orders arising out of, and related to, intimate partner violence, sexual
assault, human trafficking, and/or child abuse. Represent individuals affected by
intimate partner violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and/or child
abuse in domestic family law matters. Develop case theory and legal
strategies. Conduct legal research and draft
pleadings/motions as necessary. Document client interactions and
outcomes in HH’s case management system. Collaborate with other HH direct
service programs and/or Community Partners in the provision of services to
victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. Uphold highest standard of legal
ethics. Adhere to HH philosophy, policies, and
procedures; successfully complete HH training; attend all staff and team
meetings. Other duties as assigned by the
Director of Legal Services. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Juris doctorate from accredited law
school; admitted to practice before the Maryland Bar required. Experience representing clients in protective
order and domestic family law proceedings given priority, with
demonstrated knowledge of principles of civil law, judicial procedures, rules
of evidence, and Maryland Rules of Professional Conduct required. One to three years of experience
preferred; clerkship experience considered. Understanding of trauma-informed
approach to intimate partner violence, sexual assault, human trafficking,
and/or child abuse required. Ability to
use Microsoft 365 and quickly learn new computer databases and
applications required. Self-starter
with ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet regular deadlines in a
fast-paced environment while balancing a full workload. Demonstrated commitment to the mission
of Heartly House. F/T exempt position; salary commensurate with experience ($68,000-$72,000) plus benefits package.
