Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.Seattle City Light is hiring a Classification and Compensation Specialist in the People and Culture Business Unit. In this role, you will support the creation and implementation of compensation programs that are aligned to attract and retain a highly skilled workforce and propose unique solutions to meet the business needs of the utility. Attracting and retaining a highly skilled workforce is critical in the success of Seattle City Light. To effectively do that, we need to offer best in class practices in classification, compensation, and recruitment programs and services. This position will play a crucial role in managing day-to-day classification and compensation activities including handling routine compensation issues, processing reclassification requests, and providing guidance on pay-related matters. The Classification and Compensation Specialist will ensure that compensation practices are fair, equitable, and in compliance with organizational policies and legal requirements. This position reports to the Classification and Compensation Advisor.Here is more about what you’ll be doing:

Serve as the liaison for reclassification requests, coordinating with the City of Seattle’s Department of Human Resources. Evaluate and process classification requests, provide feedback, and keep leadership informed of potential impacts.Provide professional level guidance and recommendations to Seattle City Light people leaders pertaining to compensation and pay setting for current employees, new hires, and temporary staff. This includes interpretation of City of Seattle personnel rules and knowledge of best practices in salary setting and compensation philosophies and practices.Prepare and analyze compensation reports, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with organizational standards. Conduct periodic reviews to assess and ensure equitable compensation practices.Assist in the implementation and administration of compensation programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and market trends.Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies.Perform related duties of a comparable level and type assigned.Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, human resource management, business administration, or related field.Experience:

One year of responsible professional public personnel administration experience (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).Desired Qualifications:

You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:Experience with responsibilities in classification, compensation, or other related human resources discipline.Understanding of compensation principles, experience working with classification systems, and human resources generalist knowledge.Knowledge and/or experience evaluating, designing, and administering pay programs and experience with a classification system.Strong research and analytical skills utilizing statistical methods and technical tools to extract, manipulate, and analyze data and the ability to decipher complex issues.Ability to work well with all levels within the organization and expertise in presenting to a wide variety of audiences.Highly motivated and a self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to foresee potential obstacles and proactively identify and resolve issues.Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.Experience handling confidential and sensitive information.Possess a positive, service-oriented attitude with strong time management and organizational skills with exceptional follow-through to maintain workload.Ability to meet deadlines without compromising accuracy, excellent product quality, and attention to detail.Commitment to always providing superior customer service.Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, with individuals at all levels of the organization.Advanced level user of MS Excel.Progress towards a CCP, SHRM-CP, and/or a SPHR or PHR certification.Please note this job advertisement is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
