Job Description - Graduate Admissions Recruiter (2403683)Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Three (3) years of full-time professional experience in a student services related department, student recruitment, retention, engagement, or admissions. Experience implementing successful outreach or recruitment plans and activities. Computer proficiency i.e., Microsoft Office, Google Apps, etc. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.
Preferred Qualifications:Master’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Professional experience successfully recruiting graduate (masters/doctoral) students. Proven ability to work with people from various and diverse backgrounds (for example: academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity and sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds). Experience working in a higher education institution. Experience working with a Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) such as Slate.
Brief Description of Duties:This position is part of the Graduate Admissions team reporting to the Director of Graduate Admissions. The Graduate Admissions Recruiter will develop, implement, and manage an aggressive graduate student recruitment and outreach plan, building relationships with feeder institutions, and providing assistance to graduate programs on recruitment issues. They will accurately and effectively represent the University at national and regional conferences and meetings to potential students as well as faculty and staff. The coordinator will also train the team members from across the institution to do the same. The ability to multi-task and/or manage multiple priorities/projects is important to this role. This will be an on-campus position with off-campus recruitment travel. Ability to engage a variety of stakeholders in the creation and managing of student and staff facing programs is vital to this position.
Duties:Strategic planning:
Initiate, develop and implement a strategic and cost-effective plan for master and doctoral student recruitment; foster existing pipeline relationships as well as create new meaningful relationships with feeder schools, national laboratories, professional organizations/companies, and/or research areas to develop mutually beneficial recruitment associations.Collect and analyze institutional, regional, and national data that evaluates and informs recruitment practices.
Raise the visibility and prominence of the institution by participating in college fairs, professional societies, and conferences to increase targeted outreach to drive prospective student engagement.Organize and participate in on-campus and virtual recruitment events to attract prospective students and make connections for faculty and staff with access to a critical mass of prospective students. This includes but is not limited to information sessions, open houses, and admissions presentations.Employ social media and other outlets to create a meaningful online presence, communicate with prospective students systematically, and advertise exciting opportunities on campus.This position also includes assisting with management of the shared graduate admissions email account.Relationship building with prospective students:
Develop and execute effective arm-chair recruitment activities by utilizing databases to advertise opportunities and communicate and track prospective students.Use Slate to search, identify and track potential master’s and doctoral applicants.Employ social media and other outlets to create a meaningful online presence, communicate with prospective students in a systematic fashion and advertise exciting opportunities on campus.Cultivate nurturing relationships with potential individual applicants.Meet with applicants to Stony Brook’s graduate degree programs during the recruitment and interview phases of consideration, connecting them with relevant grad program directors and faculty of interest across campus.Collaborate with other graduate and undergraduate recruiters in a supportive and mutually beneficial system to assure coverage, outreach, and efficiency in recruitment is achieved.Create and implement a prospective graduate student tour program.
Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) efficiency:
Develop and implement a recruitment and application guidance communication plan with support from the Graduate School Director of Marketing and Communications, utilizing the CRM system (Slate).This position will be expected to learn and utilize the application processing system to communicate with students and faculty and advise and guide potential candidates on processing, timelines, and requirements.
Meet regularly with faculty and academic departments to collect ideas and feedback from graduate program directors and coordinators by disciplinary category to better understand specific department cultures and the types of students who are successful in their particular programs.Work with university departments to develop interventions that will address barriers to admission.Review and analyze Graduate School and Health Science Schools admissions applications:
This position will review and process graduate and health sciences applications for compliance, using Slate and PeopleSoft, for domestic and international applicants as needed.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes:This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
***Out-of-State Applicants: Please note as a condition of employment and in order for this position to be tendered, the successful incumbent will be required to provide evidence of a valid license and driving abstract from the state issuing the license within five business days of a conditional offer and must obtain a NYS driver's license within 30 days of start date.
This is an on-campus position with off-campus recruitment travel. Weekend and overnight travel may be required at times.For this position, we are unable to sponsor candidates for work visas.
